Igloochick - question on your hinges/knobs

lisapico
16 years ago

I was just reading a post you replied to re: inset cabinets. If you don't mind, would you mind sharing pictures and/or names of your cabinet hinges and your knobs/pulls? We're also going with inset and "hardware" is on my KD's upcoming agenda. Thanks!

Curious to know, what is your countertop material? I've finally decided on cambrian black antique and verde fantastico (on island). Really went back and forth between that and the soapstone/butcherblock look.

    Heh heh, I love knobs...did you know I love knobs? Heh heh (anyone on the forum for over a year knows I'm a knob freak LOL)

    I went with Omega Custom, with a beaded inset door, with concealed hinges. I needed to have a concealed hinge because I am a knob freak and actually picked the cabinets to go with the knobs, verses the knobs to go with the cabinets heh heh My door isn't on the omega website, but it's a simple shaker style (Manheim I think) with a beaded inset door. I wanted to show you some inset doors without hinges so you can get a feel for them (since mine are in the warehouse) so (sorry for the links, visit these). I like that they hinge isn't seen. My knobs are busy and they're the stars...I don't want a hinge to busy up the works even more.

    We went with a natural cherry with an autum finish (just evens out the cherry a bit). The uppers are all glass front (in a gold tone glass I found at a stained glass store with a bit of a ripple so you can't see my cans of soup).

    My kitchen has both gold tone and silver tone fixtures. The lighting is antique art deco...here's one in all gold:
    {{gwi:1757469}}
    Mine have silver bodies and the arms that hold the glass are gold as well as a couple accent places, so that allowed me to use both tones in the kitchen. The stove (Lacanche) also has brass and chrome knobs and so does the Franke Pot filler.

    So here are the knobs:

    {{gwi:1442816}}
    {{gwi:1442814}}
    {{gwi:1442812}}

    The twisted (plain...well for me) knob in the back is the main knob in the kitchen. It will be on the majority of the cabinets, but the animals will be scattered throughout as well :) There are a couple that might not make it into the mix (the bunnies with bows most likely) even though they're not as bright as they look here (flash) they still are a bit domestic in comparison with the rest.

    I'm using a granite I never see anywhere called Vulcan Gold. (I purchased this two years ago before marble was in fashion LOL) But I still love it. The tile is the backsplash:
    {{gwi:1437848}}

    The walls will be venetian plaster in a soft gold to compliment the balance of the kitchen, and the floors are a dark walnut (stained oak). One of the counter tops (the sink run and around the stove, will be stainless in a brushed pattern. This is the work horse of the kitchen (where DH...the work horse likes to work) with a built in drain to the sink and low marine edges so it's easy to keep spills contained (he's a sloppy cook).

    Then behind the stove I have this:
    {{gwi:1457170}}

    The sinks and appliances are stainless aside from the stove which is black enamel (I don't like them hidden..I don't want to be drunk and not find the fridge) :oP

    And here's how the entire kitchen looks now:
    {{gwi:1757470}}
    It's framed in nordic black antique granite and that's also used on the massive hood above the stove (it's 55" or so long).

    Gosh I hope yours looks better :oP (Those are just the guts...that is the "formal" living room..can't ya tell?)

    I sure hope I can post pictures before I collect social security...or my two year old learns to drive....

    Wow! I am speechless...

    Good luck - I think we have very different tastes. Thanks for your post.

    LMAO Lisa :) I'm very unique heh heh

    But I will tell you, I did consider a much more basic knob from the same line. They're all Anne at Home. Look through Knobgallery.com and see if anything catches your eyes :oP They're not all crazy, and I do think they're incredibly well made. They're all heavy and very well formed (no sharp edges...and given all of the edges on my knobs, that's a good thing). No mold marks, etc. That Anne makes some great knobs!

    While chickens might not be my "thing", I love, love, love that mosaic. Where is it from?

    It's from Lebanon. Very well made (mosaics are a challenge sometimes if they're not made right so you have to watch that). I purchased it on ebay from Phoenicianarts. They have millions of mosaics available and can also custom make them for you. I purchased three of them (two "carpets") and this backsplash.

    I didn't think chickens were my thing either...and they somehow clucked their way into my kitchen LOL

    I have a mosaic from the same company on one wall of my kitchen. The company was a pleasure to work with. The initial mosaic they sent differed from the one I ordered. They asked me to photograph and explain what I thought was wrong. I did so, and they paid all postage for the return and the replacement, which was done correctly. They were very solicitous. Mine is a kitchen scene that I "had to have" because certain elements of it remind me of my own kitchen and land. My tile installer installed it and when his wife saw it in his portfolio, she demanded he start doing mosaics. LOL.

    We also have a marble mosaic purchased on ebay from Phoenicianarts. It is being installed on Friday and I can't wait to see it in place behind the range. Ours is a rooster- and I never thought I was a rooster-person. The colors and shading are absolutely beautiful.

    Igloochick can't wait to see your kitchen when it's all put together. The elements are just amazing - really beautiful.

    Thanks Lissa :) I think the original lisa who asked the question is in therapy now though LOL My kitchen is very unique...not your normal cup of tea :oP But that's probably why I hope to love it (should it ever move from the box stage to a kitchen)! And probably why it's up for a couple of impatient mag shoots LOL (They seem to need for it to be done more than I do...deadlines and all).

    I think there is a real beauty to many of the classic kitchens we see here on GW but the ones that really capture my heart are the ones with some unusual bling going on, which definately influanced me when I was working on my design.

    Unusual bling? That's a bit of an understatement.

    (And for some reason, the pig and radish knobs freak me out. )

    igloo - why didn't you tell me of Phoenicianarts before now? I would have killed for a mosaic like that - I do like chickens/roosters/etc - very cool!!

    KK - you're killing me, pig and radish knobs freak you out? I'll admit the pig has a very evil pose to him but the radishes look innocent enough :oP

    Personally, I love lots of "bling" (or what I call character / uniqueness). I am in love with your knobs, igloochic. No way I'd ever get Hubby to agree to anything even remotely like them, though.

    Igloochick, I adore and covet your whimsical knobs!!! I can only imagine in a bad dream how much they cost. I recently ordered some knobs, eliptical shaped pulls, and some plainish pantry pulls in a rust finish from Alno and they averaged around eight bucks a piece. Seems kinda costly for what I got......but, I had to have them!

    Igloo, if you can't find a place for that devilish looking pig on the second panel that you posted, I will take him off your hands. I will even pay! He's the one looking like he is rubbing his hooves? together in an anticipation of something good cookin on the stove, or, in contrast, something pornagraphic looming in his future. FYI, he's the one with lettuce??? shaped pulls to his left and right, and polar bear pulls below. I got a crush on this porker. Hope you don't! Also, I'm from Arkansas where Razorbacks rule. Whoooooooooooo, pig, soooooieee!!!!!!!!!!

    Oh, bottom line, I LUV, luv, luv your pulls and your sense of whimsy. I share your sense of fun...even with the all crucial, expensive, and stressful kitchen/home remodel thang. We should all lighten up a bit.

    The rabbit-sans-bow is my favorite.
    Next favorite is the pig, though I agree he looks like he is planning something. I might be nervous frying bacon while he leers over my shoulder.

    I wonder if your kitchen will be finished before mine? We just passed the 2-year mark, with no end in sight...

    ;-)
