Since you have it already I guess you should just give it a try. I think so much depends on the layout of your kitchen as to whether or not it will be a help or nuisance. If your work triangle ( sink, stove, fridge) is situated so that you have to go around the island to get to one of these points it may not be helpful.

96-24= 72'. That's the absolute minimum space for an aisle. But, it's more than that. If it blocks the path between work zones, you'll hate it. Draw a line between the fridge, stove, and sink. If the island is the way, it's in the way.
