Your fabricators are sadly mistaken - a bullnose CAN be done with a matched
leather or textured edge, There are diamond brushes that are available that
can be used to apply a matching texture to the stone once it is shaped into the
180 degree return that is known to most people as a "Full Bullnose" edge detail.

They can get the brushes that are made by Tenax through Braxton Bragg,
GanQuartz or Defusco Supply - and are readily available.

this is something I teach at my school - and if I can do it and teach it -
it CAN be DONE....

This is from a "green" slab product that is textured - and the bullnose is done
after the slabs are produced - the edge is textured to match the face os the slab.....

here is the brush that's used - it has diamonds in the plastic strands

Here I am putting on the texture to the roughed round over profile.....
for best results - the texture process must be done WET.

If your fabricators don't believe you - just show 'em these pics..

Thanks for the info and the great pics. I guess now I have to decide if I want these guys learning on my granite or finding someone who already knows how to do it.

Find someone else that ALREADY KNOWS HOW -
Don't "chance it" with a beginner.... you're paying too much
to turn your kitchen into a "learning experience" for a novice - at YOUR Expense!!!

Try looking at the SFA map - there are many guys that are in the SFA that
know how to do leathering - both the entire slab AND the edges...

I have brushed absolute black which i'm assuming is similar to antiqued or leathered. I asked my fabricator about the edges not matching and they said they had not had success with doing it themselves. I have a pencil edge that is honed. Obviously it doesn't match the top, but it honestly doesn't bother me at all.

I have an eased edge on my antique black granite counter. The finish is similar to a honed counter - not polished but not quite as textured as the counter. It looks and feels great.

Thanks everyone for the advice/examples. Just spoke to GC - the cost to do the mitered edge isn't too much and he will split with me, so I am going to go that route, rather than delay the project to find someone willing/able to finish the edge. But rest assured I will be sharing my newfound information with the salespeople at the slabyard, my GC (who did really feel bad about this) and the fabricators!
