Broan, Best, Faber and others all make hood inserts or vent backs, some of which completely fit under the cabinet, some of which have a canopy that pulls out.

They don't have the capture of a hood that projects and the front bottom edge of the cabinets can get a little greasy. The bottom of the cabinets should be covered with something fire resistant. I had stainless steel lining the underside of my cabinets when I had one.

That bottom one looks like it might be a slideout. I'm a fan of those. An excellent compromise. Miele and Monogram, among others, have them with the slim metal front like that. Others I'm less familiar with will allow a strip of cabinetry along the front.

I love the look you're after and if I were TALLER I'd be doing it. But I'd miss being able to reach as much stuff if I did!

And, as long as you're having to have extra high wall cabs to make it all supersleek, maybe you could have them come out further over the counter than normal without being annoying--then your integrated hood would have better coverage. OOOh and then you could reach more!! (uhoh. getting inspired here!)

I had a slide out with wood front in a previous kitchen. I was satisfied with the loons and performance. (We had ikea cabinets and a drawer front was just the right size to panel the front.)
