I'm fairly new to GW, but it seems it only stores so much info, not necessarily by date, but by volume. Perhaps if you post info about the thread you are referring to, another GWer who has been a member for a longer time will be able to help.

Theoretically they're supposed to hang around, but there have been several times in the past few years when they've had to sort of reboot the whole thing and lost large numbers of older posts. Searching with google et al will give you a much longer search period than the feeble forum search, too.

EDIT In some cases older threads may be cached at google when the originals aren't here anymore, too.

I did the same thing today, oldryder, looking for a thread from about a year ago and couldn't find it.

Did you google for it? I find threads that are years old but I only use google to search GW not the internal search engine.
