| It's beautiful! Nice job! |
| Really great! Bright and happy! I like the trim work and the knobs especially! |
| What a beautiful, bright, open space! |
| This looks great! What size recessed lights did you use? I really like the look of your lighting with cabinets and all the white. |
| ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!!! |
| I am so impressed, by your beautiful kitchen and your budget. |
| Wow is right!!! Terrific transformation. Love the way it is so brightened up! Congratulations on a really fantastic reno. I think I would put TV on the end of the cabinet run by near the table. That way it's visible from both seating areas, just in case. Also think it might be too cluttered in the corner. |
| My oh my! That is beautiful! Great job!! |
| Excellent job! And you use the RH pulls I was also planning on! Is that chrome or polished nickel? Enjoy. It's wonderful. |
| WOW! What a great use of 20K. Sure doesn't look budget to me. I love how just moving the fridge opened up the space to the DR. I also LOVE the double door pantry. What a great space to come home to! |
| Beautiful! Bravo! |

| Beautiful! It's so peaceful... you must love just being in it... I would! Congrats |
| Wow, I really like how the colors are balanced in your new kitchen. Can you place the tv above the frig?? |
| Beautiful!!! I love all the light & the clean lines. Enjoy! |

| Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful! It really turned out great! Love the floors with everything, love the granite! Everything works so well together...you must be loving it! |
| Well done! |
| 3 daises, I love it. I love everything about this space. I am so close I love that you were the KD and GC. However if you had Enjoy it,
| Very pretty! 1. I think you're right that the corner where the platter is is a good place for the TV. It's out of the way and visible. 2. I'd do a simple shade with a hint, but not a pop, of color. But then I really hate curtains in a kitchen so if you do that I may think they're pretty, but I'm not going to suggest it. What would look really nice, in my opinion, is seagrass or some other natural material with a little natural color. I think the contrast between the slightly rustic seagrass and the polished cabinetry and counters would be fab, and go with your rug and seats. |
| Lovely!! I have Black Galaxy too, so I'm admiring it in your new, white kitchen... it looks awesome! Enjoy!! |
| Looks great! Enjoy! |
| I love your kitchen; it is beautiful. Though my floors are already done I instantly gravitated towards yours. Would you mind telling what the floors were? Where you got them, etc? We have other rooms to do soon....! |
| WHOA. I am no help with TV placement, because I'd say in another room. ;-) And if you saw my bare-windowed house, you'd probably prefer others' take on window coverings, too, although fun color is always good (OK, not always, but I think it could be here)...But I am so impressed with what you've accomplished with this space and the details that make it special...I even love the towel hanging from the trash pullout. It's not 'just another white kitchen.' So bright, so elegant, and smart changes to improve the overall feel of the room. Your before and afters show a wonderful example of why I don't like fridges at the dining end of a sink run. Moving it was a great improvement. ENJOY!! :-D |
| What an awesome job! I'm so glad you posted the pictures as we are in the middle of a VERY similar renovation: 25K budget, also reusing cabinets (which have their 1st coat of BM White Dove on them as we speak!), wood floor, honed AB granite countertop on perimeter (John Boos cherry butcher block on island), and a new trash pullout in the island, which DH and I are also both (sadly) excited about! I am currently trying to convince DH to do a plain white subway backsplash, which he doesn't want to do because he thinks it will blend in w/the cabinets. Now that I can show him these beautiful pictures, how can he say no? ;) Guys really need the visual sometimes! Thanks for sharing, the results are not only beautiful, but for me the timing couldn't have been better! |

| Faahhh-bu-lous!!!! I love it! TV....can you have it on some sort of contraption that folds it up so it is hidden against the bottom of the cabinets when not watching? You did a great job! |
| Been following you since the get go, and you GO GIRL!! It's fantastic, so fresh, new, and classy! |
| Lovely kitchen! I really like your dining set, do you know who makes it? I have a east facing kitchen window and also needed something to block the sun in the summer. I use faux wood blinds and I put a valance over them. If you use bamboo or seagrass make sure it really blocks the sun. You could also put a tint on the window. |

| Nice work, KD! Your local carpenter did a really nice j ob updating the c abinets and blending everything in. He sounds like a find! What's really nice is how you can now see the window in the dining area since the fridge isn't in the way any more. Much better view and more light. Good planning! |
| Beautiful job! It is amazing to think this kitchen is the same size as the original. Your classic choices in materials will allow your kitchen to stay fresh for a very long time. Gotta love your carpenter! |

| Really pretty--love the sparkly look of the counter! I would put the TV near the table end. I think it would get dirty or splattered on near the corner and the stove. |

| Amazing! The cabinets look like very expensive high end custom cabinets. What a gorgeous space. It is so well designed. I love your posters. I have the same Indiana Dunes poster in our Indiana Dunes cottage! And we live in the northern suburbs of Chicago. Are we neighbors? Congratulations on a fabulous kitchen. |
| Lovely lovely lovely. Like Boxerpups, I thought I was looking in a magazine. Such forethought and creativity -- You've done a marvelous job. So pretty and peaceful looking! So please do tell us more about your lighting: what did you use for undercabs, and size, etc of your recessed cans? |
| YOur kitchen came out beautiful... love how you changed the space! Can I ask you what company your cup pulls are from. I am trying to find that style but a bit wider then the one shaub and top knobs makes and from the photo it appears that yours may be wider. |
| Gorgeous! Bright, airy and sophisticated! Your carpenter did an amazing job with pre-existing cabinets! Your floors are stunning! What is the width of the floors? |

| Gosh, y'all - thank you all for the nice words! It makes my day. There was no where for that kitchen to go but up - the before photos don't quite convey how dark and dismal it was, not to mention completely dysfunctional. brickton - I used 6" can lights from HD. Almost bought smaller but thankfully I didn't. I even had two extra added after the fact over the table. malgold - that's a good suggestion. I was concerned about keeping it clear over in the workspace. I'll probably need some sort of box for the TV also. sabjimata - yep, you got it! They're the RH chrome - not hard to keep clean, surprisingly. I thought the chrome was just a bit less expected than the brushed SS hardware. earth pal - great suggestion about the tv but I've got deep cabinets over the fridge filled with platter, large stuff that I have nowhere else to store...but I might mull that one over. I hadn't thought of that spot. boxerpups- you're too kind, thanks! you were one of the first to help me here when I was agonizing about black granite too! pillog - I tend to agree. I'd love some funky patterned cafe curtains on the sink window but fabric around the sink, ehhhh. I have bamboo blinds elsewhere in the house and was thinking about using bamboo again or matchstick blinds in the kitchen too (when I can afford them!). kaidan - I will look up the floors for you - the receipt should be in one of my files. They're prefinished and I think they're white oak in a pecan stain, not red as I stated above. My caveat to you would be that they seem much softer than the other hardwood floors I have on the first floor which were sanded/finished on site - shinier too. My dog has done a job on the kitchen floors but I try not to let it bother me too much - the color is not scraping off, it's just indentions from her nails. I'll post again who manufactures the floors. :) susie3d - I remember! Thanks girl! happiladi - thanks! my chairs are from a European Antique Pine warehouse in Alpharetta, GA. http://www.europeanantiquepine.com/ biochem101 - Bingo! It was so irritating it was to be working in the kitchen and NOT be able to see my small children at the table b/c the line of sight was blocked by a ginormous fridge! I'm SO glad we moved it, it really makes a difference. One person actually thought I removed a wall when she saw the kitchen after it was done - no, it was just the big white fridge was gone. westsider - we're not neighbors (I'm in GA) but we'd love to live in Chicago someday (DHwas born in Arlington Heights). I just love the vintage railroad line posters. They are also a great pop of color! I have two more Illinois Central line/Chicago posters on the wall across from the bay window. That's the quirky part of the kitchen, I guess! rjr - the recessed lights are 6" cans - not sure of the brand -but they're from HD. And the undercounter lights are "Utilitech" puck halogen-xenon and they do get pretty hot. I was really unprepared for the electrician and grabbed the puck lights in a panic - he hardwired them in, but they weren't originally designed for that. I just couldn't find anything else, wasn't sure, and HD wasn't being helpful at all! They do the job though but next time I might go with strip lights. ajard - thanks! my pulls are Restoration Hardware chrome - and the trash pullout handle is the 8" RH Aubrey in chrome. ejbrymom - thank you! The floor planks are 3.5" wide to match the other floors in the house...although the rest of the 1st floor was finished on-site. Thanks again for all the compliments. :) It's nice to have this project behind us! |
| Thank you so much for posting that answer. I am in the process of buying some 6" cans from a guy off craigslist (@$3 a pop w/trim) and was getting nervous about some of the posts about them being too large. Well, I think some people might need to hush up and look at your kitchen, because they look great! Also I just noticed your floor and wanted to say how much I like that as well. We're planning on doing white oak in our new build and we're thinking darker, but that's actually a really nice lighter shade that I haven't seen too often. It doesn't read blonde or gold, which I like. We're trying to find something that is brown. Not red, gold, orange, pink, yellow, mauve, etc. and this is a nice calm option. |
| Your kitchen is absolutely beautiful. I'm in the planning stages of my new kitchen and I'm thinking of putting in an island but I'm not sure if my space is wide enough(kitchen is 13 feet wide). I love your island and I was wondering if you could tell me the dimensions of it and how wide the overhang is. How much space do you have in your aisles? How large is you dinette area? Enjoy your kitchen - you did a great job. |
| The floor looks great. Thanks for answering my hardware question. I am now considering going with chrome. |
| You did a phenomenal job! I just love white kitchens! Also like your floor stain very much. Congrats! |
| Everything looks so crisp and bright. Amazing transformation on a budget. Love the details on your island. Congratulations! |
| Just a beautiful transformation. It truly looks like a designer came in and coordinated everything. The cabinet style and the hand pulls are very pretty. The granite just sparkles! I like your idea of the natural bamboo or matchstick covering for the window too. Really, really, fresh and bright. Congratulations! |

| Thanks brickton, glad to help. I think you'll be pleased with the 6" cans - they really don't look big or abnormal once they're in. These recessed lights have white interiors also, not the reflective, so they really blend in with the ceiling. Kodak1 - Thank you! The island is 35 and 5/8" by 50" (measuring the top, not the base) - and the overhang where the stools are is 10". The island base is 24" by 48". The aisles are a different matter, yes they are a bit narrow. I almost had the granite cut without an overhang b/c of the location of the refrigerator but so glad I didn't. On the fridge side the aisle width is 37" and sink side, the aisle is 31". We ended up having definitely enough space for people to sit and not be in the fridge, so to speak. It's tighter than the ideal on the sink side, but I was determined to get the island big enough to be useable! Measuring across the room, from sink base cabinet to base cabinet across the room, it's 9'6". And wall to wall add 2 ft on either side, so my kitchen is about 13' wide as well. Sounds like you'd have plenty of room for a modestly sized island. And the dining area of the kitchen is about 11'8" by 12' - hope that helps! |
| Wonderful job - it's classy and elegant, and even more impressive for 20K. On GW, there's always some element that takes "yet another white kitchen" out of the ordinary, and with yours I love the contrast of the shiny subways and sparkly black counters with the country-rustic feel of the floor. The details on the island are great too, including the neat curved edges on the counter. Love this kitchen! |
| No Way. Sorry to be the skeptic here. I don't believe you got that beautiful kitchen for under 20k. I want to see the books! :) Did that include all the new appliances? Plumbing for new fridge? New cabinets built where the old fridge was and around the old desk? The molding? The lights in the dining room? It is such a well done space. The layout and proportions are above par. Good for you. Enjoy! |
| Thank you so much for checking on the floors! I would love to know that info but don't go crazy looking. |

| kaidan - I am still looking for the hardwood floor info! It's not in the first file - everything was so jumbled and thrown around during the reno that I know there's another pile of kitchen invoices somewhere. I should really get them together in one central file anyway. What I do know is that it's white oak, 3.5" wide, prefinished, pecan color...and I'll get back with you with the hopefully the manufacturer name as soon as I can. :) purplbee - Thank you for the compliment! Pretty much all I know is that the electrician purchased the 6 light "contractor's" pack (which had the baffle & trim included I think). The Home Depot receipt I have on file wasn't helpful to figure it out either....sorry! |

| WOW- beautiful kitchen and great budget! |
| Three Daisies, Maybe I missed it but did you go with the RH Gilmore knobs or are they the bistro? Thanks, |
| Your kitchen is loveley! I really like the white you used for the cabinets. We're thinking of doing something similar, and I have a few questions. Were the doors painted in place, or before they were installed? It looks like you went from a double sink to a single, and I'm thinking of doing the same. Do you miss the second drain? Many thanks, Yvonne |
| I wish I had made all your choices. Wonderful job! |

| Gorgeous! Seriously, it is photos like yours that keep me slogging thru the planning (endless planning) and the nitty-gritty details (very gritty) - thank you for sharing and for being such an inspiration to me while I am still in process! |
| three-daisies, I LOVE your kitchen. I love the black galaxy granite that I may now look into. What is the edge that you used that looks so nice? The love the BM Dove White color of your kitchen cabinets and the hidden hinges as well as the chrome hardware that really updates the kitchen. I love the BM Lancaster Whitewash color of the walls with everything in your kitchen that really adds the wow factor for me making the kitchen so peaceful and elegant as well as beautiful. The love the new appliances and that cool clock that goes so well. The floors are so beautiful and look great in your kitchen. Thanks for letting me know you used 6" cans since I think that is what I want to do in my kitchen since I want a lot of light. What type of light bulb and what wattage are in each recessed light can? The lighting is great in your kitchen so I thank you for sharing to give me ideas. I have the same Wheat-back chairs but mine are stained lighter and I love my kitchen set like I love yours. My table is a little different since I needed a table that the sides folded down and one that had a center piece that could be placed in or out depending on if I had company since my kitchen is not too big. I wish I could remove the soffit in my kitchen but I am not sure what is under it. I also love the stools you used for the island. |

| Thanks, all! As for the questions, glad to help: Sherry - I actually used cheapo Home Depot chrome knobs to save money (there were so many of them) but used the RH Gilmore pulls on the few drawers I had. Yvonne - the new doors were painted/lacquered prior to installation while the existing cabinet boxes were primed/painted/lacquered in place. Yes, we did switch to a large single bowl sink - I had done that in a previous kitchen renovation and knew for sure I wanted that. We love it - DH is so happy with the single sink and he doesn't even care about kitchen stuff! The sink is nice and deep - hides anything, and it's so easy to use w/out the divider. I highly recommend. Lynn2006 - my kids loved the black galaxy (looks like stars, mom!) thus we couldn't resist it. We are happy with the choice. The edge is a standard eased edge, nothing fancy, with 1/4" radius corners. BTW, the clock is from Restoration Hardware. It was one of the few new accessory purchases I made for the new kitchen. I love my wheatback chairs but need a larger table, preferably a nice distressed farmhouse style - just can't afford it right now. :) The counter stools are from Target, $39 each! |

| Excellent job. You must be so proud of yourself. How long did it take from start to finish? What do you like the most about it. Is there something you could not do without? Now enjoy and brag about it |
| WOWZA! That's a great looking kitchen you've created for your family :) I know you'll enjoy waking up in the mornings and walking into such a beautiful space :) I'd put the tv in the corner between the stove and sink. You'll be able to see it from either one of those locations, plus the island. Monica |

| Your new kitchen is absolutely beautiful! Wow!! Your "before" cupboards look much like my present ones, and we too have decided to have new doors made since cabinets are in great condition and our layout works well (with few tweaks). Could you please tell me what materials your woodworker used to build doors? We had a guy here yesterday that gave us an estimate and would use MDF for inset panel and paint grade maple for raised surround. Also, what kind of hinges were used? Thanks, and again, great job! Enjoy! |
| Thanks three_daisies. One more question - Which sink did you end up with, and how deep is it? The hidden hinges do make a difference. I was going to continue to use the exposed hinges, but I like the look you have. thanks again. |
| Hi three_daisies--beautiful transformation! It really looks professionally designed. I think I have read a post from you before, and I think we live in the same town (?). Would you recommend your "local carpenter/craftsman"? (TIA)- |

| suzluvsflowers - my assumption, until you asked that question, is that the carpenter used all wood for the doors, but I'm not 100% certain of that. Definitely the raised part of the door is wood. I'm sorry I don't know the hinges exactly, but they are very strong and simple -the door can "snap" off and then can snap back on again (if that helps any). yandj - I definitely recommend the hidden hinges. Before, my kitchen was all hinges - too much distracting hardware. It just makes for a cleaner look in my opinion. The sink was from the granite fabricator; it's 9" deep and 29" x 16" - I have no idea of the brand. poppy - yes I would recommend the carpenter team that we used - while the process wasn't w/out a few hitches, they did good work and I felt it was a nice bunch of guys. Of course it took longer than forecast but not a surprise. His price was very reasonable as well. I'm in the ATL area; let me know if you want his name. Thanks again for the compliments! |

| Looks great! Can you tell me the brand of prefinished red oak? I really love it. |
| Please tell me the paint color you used on the cabinets and the walls. You have a beautiful kitchen. It is very welcoming and family friendly. How do you like the Black Galaxy? Is it difficult to keep clean without streaks? |
| Sorry, i found the answer regarding the paint question on another thread. I think you used White Dove for your cabinets, but I'm still uncertain about the wall color and the Black Galaxy cleaning question. Thanks for posting your kitchen pictures! |
| Holy Cow! What a great job! I can't wait to be at that point where I can post "finished" pics, too! I am a huge sunlight fan but also being in the South, I understand how brutal it can be in the summer at certain times of day. I would opt for a small roman shade type deal where it would be minimally obtrusive on the window but you could lower it as much as you wanted for dining and no sun in the eyes. Otherwise, I would leave them up all the time and enjoy the brightness. Again, congrats...maybe you should open your own kitchen redesign business given all the positive feedback! |

| Three_Daises- I am interested in installing hardwood floors in my kitchen to match the hardwood floors in the rest of the home. I saw from the photos that you had hardwood floors in one of the photos. Did you encounter any problems getting your hardwood floors to match? Any advice? I just had the hardwood floors in my home refinished (no stain) two years ago if that helps. Love your kitchen!! I love white kitchens and am hoping to have one of my own soon!! Yours will serve as inspiration! |

| Hi three daisies- BEAUTIFUL KITCHEN (especially great value $)- will greatly increase your enjoyment and at some point, resale. There's so may things I like but want to ask about your hardwood floors. Could you provide specifics? Brand, collection name, color. Are they plank? how wide? are there grooves/bevel on ends? I believe you've confired they are white oak. I too am attempting to match existing looking at options... Thanks ~ |
| Hi three_daisies! Your kitchen is the one I keep coming back to... over and over and over again. EVERYTHING about it is just soooo beautiful!!! My old cabinets will also be repaired and rehabbed by a local craftsman. Do you happen to know where I might find the molding that your carpenter/craftsman used to make the outer raised area on the cabinet doors and drawer fronts? What you have is exactly what I've been looking for but can't find. Any guidance is very much appreciated. |

| I was looking through some older posts and found your kitchen for under $20K.... How in the world did you do that ...and granite too? Please post the breakdown of costs....this is amazing!...and an amazing job also! |
| It's fabulous! I'd love to cook in it! |
| Another beauty!! Where in the world did you get that amazing tea towel with the pom poms? Etsy perhaps? |
| Your kitchen is gorgeous. I've been coming back to this page daily for several days. You did a wonderful job. I hope your family is enjoying your new space! |
| I would like to know about the towel as well. LOVE IT and your lovely kitchen. I am going to refinish my table and never thought about wheat grass chairs but yours look inviting and I might give that a try. LOVELY KITCHEN! Sunny |
| I would mount the telly on an articulating arm underneath the upper cabinet closest to the dining table. Most likely you will need to attach it to a stud. Hopefully you could make the edge of the telly flush with the end of the cabinet/counter. Using an arm will allow you to pivot the telly toward the DR table, the island or the sink. And then you can fold it flat against the wall for a more streamline look when not in use. With this arrangement, you might have to move the radio/speakers. As mentioned by another commenter/s, I would love to see a general breakdown of cost. Lovely kitchen. Enjoy it in good health! |

I have to admit...I am not favorable to black in the kitchen...but, you did it right by using the white cupboards...floor selection nice too..very neutral, not too yellow..dark, GREAT choice!!! Also, when I scrolled over to the "art work" on the wall..goes to show you how the art work you choose can "tie it all in"..good choice, nice. |
