Vent Hood Size Over Induction Range vs. Gas Range

I didn't want to hijack a current post on 30" vs 36" hoods because my question is specifically about choosing a hood to go over an induction slide in range.

I've often seen recommendations to go larger with a gas range or cooktop. But I wonder if it doesn't look like overkill to go 36" over a 30" induction range. I am (I think..) installing all new uppers, so at this point I can go with either. The hood will be on my focal point wall. It won't be a chimney hood, but will either be under a cabinet or under a simple cabinet-size frame.

Functionally, I think 30" would work fine, but I don't want it to look skimpy. On the other hand, someone wrote something recently about "hanging an art lamp over a vacuum cleaner" (I'm paraphrasing...) and I don't want it to appear that I'm trying to showcase my stove as if it were a high end European enamel range.

Thanks live_wire_oak, I appreciate the response. Now to nail down my choice for a vent...

I did not go wider than my induction cooktop but wish that I had going to wider.

I don't think your hood would look like "showcasing". It's only 3" on each side of your induction.

Thank you for the replies. While I'm taken by the beauty and details of so many kitchens here I keep trying to keep scale/proportion in mind when planning mine, as well as considering form and function.

Amck, your last statement really struck home with me. I too-easily get starry-eyed and forget to keep it real...especially in light of the price tag of renovation.

We went with a 30" when we bought our appliances (before I discovered GardenWeb). We still don't have our vent installed, but if I had to do it over, I would definitely consider going with the 36" rather than the 30" Our cabinets are going to be too close to allow a change now, but a little wider would have probably been a rather smart idea.
