If you have only 4, I do not see why not⦠When I did my kitchen refresh, I did not, but I had a lot of drawers to do. However, I would make sure you do more than the 2 coats of light polyurethane- friction will cause scratching. If the drawers close smoothly, then it shouldn't be an issue.

I've been wondering this, as well. I did not do anything to my drawer boxes when I painted, but did put in new liner. Now I'm wondering if the unfinished boxes look "unfinished."

Same thing goes with the underside of my wall cabinets. They were unfinished, too, so I left them alone. Was that a mistake?

My wall cabs are painted on the underside.

My only concern with the drawer boxes is that if something spills in them, there is no way to clean it up. It soaks right into the wood.

I simply sealed the wood. That way, the contents that might scratch paint, won't show with the sealer. I did 3 coats inside, sanding in between. Outside, just one.

I also used polyacrylic vs. polyurethane because I like the clean wood. Anything "urethane" yellows over time.

The soaking in of spills under the sink, etc., was a major reason I sealed them. Greasy fingerprints? Oh. My. God. Ick.
