Inside of cabinets split- is this a big deal?

I had cabinets installed by a cabinet company, and then my contractor came in today and installed the subtop. He screwed the subtop to the cabinet wall. I just noticed tonight that there are 6 spots where the screws have split the cabinets. These screws were screwed down through the subtop and meet perpendicular to the cabinet wall. The screws must have been too big and they split the cabinet walls. They are on the inside where I have drawers, so they are not noticeable. However, I am wondering if the splitting will spread, or if it will cause structural weakness. How big of a deal is this? How much of a fit should I through?
