Overview

View from main hallway that leads to front door

Door way on left will be added and leads to living room

View point is if I was standing in front of the range and looking main hallway. The is a banquette in the left. There is a speed oven, refrigerator and panty. From this location I now can look left and right and see our 2 fireplaces after the renovation.

Doorway on left leads to den.

I should state that as a rule I'm not fond of mantle hoods that surround a range like the ones your plan and inspiration photos feature. But it's not my kitchen so my preferences don't matter. However, given your smallish space and the relatively narrow distance between sink and range, I think you should go with corbels not pillars. The pillars really eat up functional counter next to the sink. Also, since the counter by sink and range will likely be your fridge landing zone, I think you need to preserve every bit you have. As it is, that is going to be one very busy stretch of counter. Oh, wait, is that your DW between sink and range, too?

Is this new construction or remodel?

Your kitchen plans and inspirations pictures are lovely.
I like the paint color you have chosen with the Kashmir
gold granite, it will be dreamy.

I agree with LisaA, The reason mantle hoods (Although
beautiful) can be difficult to cook with is the landing
area is blocked. Imagine having a really hot spewing greasy
pan that you need to put down immediately because there
are flames on the burner. Your fingers are burning from
the heat of the pan even though you have a hot mitt on.
You need a quick place to put that oily mess before you
burn yourself or someone else in the kitchen or your
cooking area. It is easy to smack it into the side of the
mantle hood. Darm that mantle, you might say. But with
a little more space or lack of columns it might be
easier to cook with. But, the mantle is gorgeous and
it is one of those... Form over function???
    Beauty of work horse???

I am the girl who will wear super high heels even though
my feet are killing me because I look better in my jeans
with heels rather than my clunky flat sneakers.
    Beauty over workhorse for me.

And how much space do you need next to your dishwasher?
I too worry that your dw is too close to your oven door.
Try to imagine how much space works for you. It might
be fine, visulize in your mind standing taking dishes out,
how much space do you need? Would it be difficult to
unload dishes while baking a pie? Does this rarely happen?
Or are you a baker and a dw guru?
Thoughts to consider for your lovely kitchen.

Thanks for you comments, we just dropped the cabs under the hood but we are keeping the large mantle and corbels.

The Dishwasher location is fine, I can unload the DW and put everything away within arms reach. As far as pies, I bake 10 Applies a year, between Oct and Dec and we have never had the DW on at the same time. After baking, which occurs at night usually, we will turn on the DW and go to bed.

    Cheers

    Kevin
