Yes, indeed. Dark floors show a lot--but it depends on the grain. In one part of my house I have Brazilian Cherry--nightmare to keep looking good. The older part of the house has dark stained oak--lots of contrast within the stain, and more forgiving. What is the wood of your floors?

I heard a similar complaint from someone with what looked like Spanish Oak stained red oak floors.

Our natural cork floors hide everything.

I can't tell you for sure yet - we wound up going from honey oak (original finish from the 1950's house) to jacobean....but, everything is under construction right now, so there's dust EVERYWHERE. It's insane the amount of dust. And the pieces of the floor that are showing, for sure show a lot of dust. But then, so does everything else, even the parts of our house that still have the honey oak.

I do think that if you have a lot of variation in the color of the planks, the dust issue is minimized a bit. Also, if you weren't already planning this, you may want to consider going with more of a lower-gloss finish than a high gloss since it seems that the lower the gloss level, the less dust tends to show.

I love Jacobean stain. It's very rich.
What shows on your floor is going to be dictated by the visible grain of the wood. I have a dark, walnut colored oak and it's got so much nice grain in it, scratches don't even show.

I also suggest nothing high-gloss. Talk about highlighting every speck, every cat fur, every Everything.
