Ikea Storage - One Reason I Chose Ikea

Here are some pics of my new drawers/pantry. A frying pan and a lid are missing from cooking, and there are a couple of drawer fronts missing from the pantry. I love this new kitchen. Can't wait for countertops and sink! Trailrunner, notice if you read this thread that my cornbread and biscuit cast iron are in the baking drawer!

OOOPs, please disregard the dust and dirt on my baking stuff. Can hardly wait for dishwasher, too! Lisa |

| Yes, Lisa, I was highly offended by the dust. I was thinking that perhaps if you had your KOHLER STAGES 45 SINK hooked up that maybe you could wash that dust away . . . but then again, I thought that maybe out of desperation, in the midst of TKO,you grabbed the liquor out from that over the refrigerator cupboard and had a taste or two and wasn't able to focus the camera. Cool beans! I'm jealous. Can't wait to see more! Love everything, especially the pots and pans drawers! |

| OMG... what great storage ideas! I'm going to have to bookmark this to refer back to. Thanks! |

| Lisa – Thanks for posting this. It is always great to see how others organize and IKEA is hard to beat for organization. Still – seeing it in practice is *Great* - one can really see how you get so much more in a drawer this way and yet still have everything easy to access. |

| Whoa -- I love that last picture, with all the baking dishes stacked sideways. I think I'm going to have to go back to IKEA real soon and buy a set of dividers for my 30-inch drawers. Right now I've just got baking stuff stacked up where I have to take a whole stack out to get at items on the bottom. Thanks for the great idea. I'm looking forward to seeing pictures of the finished kitchen. |

| Thanks guys. It is fun figuring out how to store everyting. FYI, sw_in_austin, that is 2 sets. 2 long bars per set and a few short ones which I didn't need to use. And that is a 30 inch drawer. The one with pots and pans is 36. Lisa |

Also, it keeps everything from trying to slide under the bars if you use the plastic stuff they have for the bottom of the drawers. Lisa |

| I like the composition of almost finished kitchen plus donut and hammer resting on the first aid kit. I'd just add a liquor bottle to express both the spirit and reality of DIY remodeling :) |

| Wow, your storage looks so nice! Did you specifically order the number of drawers that you got in your pantry? Your came so nicely equipped with drawers, unlike my Wood-Mode pantry. I am pretty sure some of those IKEA dividers will fit into my Wood-Mode "B" Blum drawers, too. Pretty much identical drawers. . . Have to check out the IKEA kitchen planning website. I am sure you got a much better deal!!

| "Yes, Lisa, I was highly offended by the dust." me too... I don't have that here in the desert... (cough, choke...) -shoot here it infiltrates my drawers, closets etc. besides... I didn't even see it in the pics. maybe i'm just so used to it here. or maybe my glasses are coated with it... I LOVE the drawers. gee, I wish Ikea would get a color I like - or could learn to live with anyway. what plastic stuff on the bottom of the drawers? isn't that metal? I was thinking it'd be easier to clean out being metal. i bet it's a lot cheaper to get those dividers than wooden ones too! you'll have to post all of the drawers open...i love looking at the drawers and stuff in them. (what's my problem????) |

| You guys are funny about my dust, lol. Plumeriavine, I like your drawers with the full sides. The ikea ones have a low drawer and a metal rail. I did not plan. I went back and bought more drawers. I love the flexablity of ikea. bmore - I've stayed off the liquor, lol. Ice cream is my solace and vice. desertsteph - it's just a plastic shelf liner that comes in a roll. I could have bought any kind, but the ikea one kind of keeps the ikea look. The bottom of the drawers is actualy some kind of wood stuff that you slide into metal sides. Lisa |

| I love their pantry cabinets! I don't have room for one, but I'm looking at various Ikea options for wall storage on the opposite wall from our sink and cabinets. I've seen great pics on the Home Decorating forum of what people have done will the Billy and other modular units. |

| Lisa! Your Ikea Abstract install looks awesome! Congrats! We're doing a very similar shade of green for our backsplash (Plexiglas over painted-green drywall). Love your modern pulls as well! Which cabinet (in which dimensions) did you use for the tall pantry with drawers shown in the first picture? |

| IKEA kitchen is designer by a genius! You have used it very well. I am always amazed by how the system is so flexible, functional, good looking and affordable. |

| LOL!! I'm TKO. I was so busy looking at the pretty cabinets I totally missed hammer, sweets, booze and all other distractions! Looks great! Love the wall color too. Very fresh. |

| All that bakeware, sitting sideways, and so accessible and not nested! Amazing. I love Ikea and the smart people who use it so well. |

studio460 - It is an 88" tall 15" wide cabinet. I got the special hinges that allow pullout drawers with a door, but the one in the store is totally pullout. I can research the part numbers if you need me to. LMK. Lisa |

| Out of curiosity, how are you liking it and how did you decide on the door v. full pullout? We'd been planning the full pullout, but I saw this one in a display last weekend and it seems like it might actually be much easier to get to the lower pullouts than the full one. (We're planning to put a big bin of dogfood on the bottom 24" of whichever one we get, so I was trying to envision pulling it out and reaching in to get at the food....seems like this version is actually a lot easier/less cumbersome?) Would love to know how it's working out so far! |

artemis78 - the pullout seemed a little dark what with the top and bottom being attached. Also, I couldn't find the right template on line for the attachments. I like the door better, especially against the wall as it is for the tall cab with pullout drawers. I have the dogfood in a counter height 15" pullout. It works great. Dogs sit by it and stare at it, but can't get in, lol. Same with trash in another location by sink. My kids love cooking on the counter over the trash pullout as they can just open it and wipe stuff directly into the trash. As my Daniel says, "I can keep my station clean." Funny boy. Lisa |

| Lisa: Thanks--don't want to put you through any trouble. Do you remember Ikea's Swedish "name" they use for your tall cabinet? Or, I could also find it by just knowing which Ikea department it's from. It's not a Pax wardrobe frame, is it? |
RE: Ikea Storage - One Reason I Chose Ikea
| | |
| Studio460 - No problem. It's just a regular tall kitchen cab. Rationel? Akurum? Whichever is the kitchen cabinet system. I did a link below. Mine is 88 tall, 15 wide and 24 deep. |
Here is a link that might be useful: Ikea tall pullout cabinet

| On Ikeafans, there is a general consesnsus that people like the swing door tall pantry with pullouts rather than the large pullout. It's also a lot easier to install than the large pullout. |

| Aren't those IKEA pantry cabinets the best? I bought one just like Lisa's at the beginning of my remodel. I'm not doing an IKEA kitchen but I am using the pantry cabinet inside a closet that will have a door that matches my new cabinets. The IKEA cabinet has been moved all over my house. It is so easy to take out the drawers and put them back in. And it holds an amazing amount of stuff in the 15" wide space. I was able to condense my food storage area from a 6' X 7'tall X 12" deep cabinet down to the 15" X 24" X 80" IKEA cabinet. I looked at the pullout versus door options too and definitely liked the ease of use with the door options. It's just a lot easier to get at everything. Wish Ikea cabinets would have worked for the rest of my kitchen. |

| I'm confused and would appreciate your help. Which is the one you and the Ikeafans prefer? There are three kinds of pantry pullouts. 1. the door is attached to each tray pullout 2. The door is attached to the top and bottom trays and the others pull out independently 3. You open the cabinet door, and all the 5 or 6 pullouts are still inside waiting for you to pull one out individually. Thanks. |

hi lisa I love the handles. What are the sizes for top cabinets and the bottom? What are the sizes for the pantry? I hope my ikea installation looks as good as yours. I love a white kitchen. Thanks..gitananoel |

| Looks great! Your storage is enviable! So happy you love your kitchen. |
RE: Ikea Storage - One Reason I Chose Ikea

| westsider40, option 3 is usually preferred so you don't have all that stuff in the way when you just want access to one of the middle pullouts. People don't like having the door panel in your face all the time. Lissalists, I love your abstrakt white. Can't wait to see it all done. |

| This thread and the other IKEA thread have been so inspirational. Just looking at the pantry cabinets gave me the solution to something that has been bothering me about my current design. lisa - is that just a filler next to the wall? I will have the same situation. |

| Odiegirl - It is a filler cut from the edge of a 24" 88 cover panel. They don't exactly have filler strips. The finished edge is against the cabinetry, and the cut edge will be caulked against the wall. westsider - I thought I wanted attached top and bottom. I wouldn't be able to get anything out if it was all attached. It would depend on where the cabinet is, and since mine is against a wall, I decided to do the door. Seemed too dark otherwise. I only made that decision after it was installed. Very flexible. gitanoel - i'm not sure i understand your question. the handles are the small and the next size up, lol. the small is like 6" from screw to screw. I'm glad so many have found the thread interesting and/or inspirational. I've enjoyed all the responses! Lisa |

| Lisa, that looks great! I am doing the same thing with my baking and casserole dishes in one of my 30" drawers. Isn't IKEA fantastic? It is so versatile! |
