Oh Geez - Diamond Encrusted Range Hood

| Watching Million Dollar Homes on HGTV - this guy had a $300K diamond encrusted range hood. Really...seriously! His kitchen, just his kitchen, was TWO MILLION. I'd rather have those diamonds dripping from my fingers, ears, wrists, toes, whatever.... |

| I saw this post and turned it on just in time to hear the German guy in Majorca show off his shower and say "It's the greatest thing in the morning to wake up in this massive golden shower." LOL What timing! Seeing Donald Trump's New York penthouse is proof money can't buy taste. |

| Well, diamonds are incredibly heat resistant! Actually, that is not true. If you heat up a diamond, it will revert to graphite. (I.e., diamonds are NOT forever!) |

with my kitchen, my boring platic shower,
and my family and my friends who can laugh
about the excess of HGTV. Am I jealous? No. Jealous
of a hood that could feed a village in Kenya for a year?

| By accident I caught that show last night. My goodness--excess and more excess. I suppose it is all in one's point of view. When I was growing up, I remember my dad saying "If I only had a million $s!" (That usually happened when his old gleaner combine (no cab of course) broke down during wheat harvest.) Mom would say "With more money comes more responsibility!" What a wise lady she was. I loved mcmjilly's "Can you sharpen your knives on a diamond encrusted range hood?" |

| I saw some of it and it was all kind of ugly. Most of the houses looked like lobbys in very expensive hotels. There was no color, books, plants, flowers, photos, etc. The town house in NYC with the silly waterfall was all black white and grey, including the paintings. I'll take the money, but none of the real estate- except, wait, I could do a reno. |

| Yeah, that apartment that had a pond around the island - Oh geez, I can just see myself having three or 4 too many glass of wine and drowning in my own kitchen! It was stupid design - IMHO! Even if I had a gazillion $'s, a pond in my kitchen would be the last thing I would have thought of. "Oh honey, can we built a moat around the island?" Yeah, right. |

| I happened to catch the show too and what caught my attention was how truly unaware the homeowners were to how much they were taken to bank. I paused and rewound the "diamond" hood and could not see any diamonds, they looked like little pieces of metal and if they were diamonds it would be a multimillion dollar hood. The one woman said that her Thermadore appliances totaled at least 100k... someone made some major profit off of these people. |

| Golly, and to think I would have been happy with the lowly Elica Star disco ball hood. All that cheese for less than 4K. :)

| Honestly, I have a hard time watching that particular show (and usually don't). Every person on there says something like "I know it was 2 million dollars, but it was SO worth it". Really????? Almost all of the living spaces they show are not something I'd enjoy living in. They're either too super-slick modern, or gawd-awful gaudy. (Not trying to bash modern here, it's just not the style I prefer). After reading the original post on this thread, I happened to catch the segment with the diamond range hood. What a waste of gemstones. If you wanted the look, then crystals would have done it, but then he couldn't brag about the diamonds... Two other features really cracked me up. First the zillion dollar paint finish on the cabinets that didn't show fingerprints. Sure, like he's really going to be the one cleaning them off. Then the secret "caterer's kitchen" so that when they entertain, the help is hidden "because, you know, cooking is so messy". I know, it's their money, and they can do what they want with it, but I think there's a point (in each person's opinion) at which materials and features go from being beautiful and luxurious to the ridiculous. That range hood is in that category for me. |

| It's at these moments that I start musing about how humankind needs to feel very embarrassed. After all what will we say to the Martians come to visit and take a look at what we're up to here on Earth, let alone someone from on high ready to judge our use of the Earth and its resources. |
