Kitchen Countertops and Optional Backsplash

Hello,

This is my first post on GardenWeb and have been so impressed with the information on this site. I recently bought a Silgranit sink because of all the great reviews on this forum.

We are in the process of remodeling our kitchen. We are pretty set on doing Caesarstone Quartz Reflection countertops. We have gotten four bids. One of the places recommends including a 3/4" backsplash of the same material and another recommends about 2". We will eventually do a tile backsplash so these 2 places said it would prevent the grout from staining and wearing down overtime. The other two places did not think this was necessary even if the grout lines were on the countertops.

Does anyone have any knowledge on whether a backsplash is necessary if doing a tile backsplash as well or does it not make a difference? I hope this makes sense or I can clarify in a follow up.

Thanks!
