Well, I'm no expert, and I think it really comes down to personal preference. Do you want a more square look or a rounder look?

DH is paranoid of our young kids hitting their heads on a sharp counter corner so wants a bigger radius. I like the look of a much smaller one for a squarer, more modern look. I will win. You might need to take things like that into consideration at your house. Do what you want.

The guy who templated for us recommended a tighter radius on the work side of the island a a larger one on the seating side.

He explained that you don't want to bump into a sharper corner and you're more likely to do that on the overhang.

We took his advice and are happy with the look.

My island counter was cut square and they just rounded it a bit for me -- we didn't have a measure on it, but I would guess that it is more like 1/2 there. The piece is a knotty cherry with distressing and a glaze, so it has an older feel to it and the rounded is just softened, maybe a bit worn -- not really rounded, but no banged hips either.

erika, why don't you ask your granite guy to bring out templates for 1" and 2" radius corners and see for yourself in person. It is too important of a decision to have to guess about. You may even decide you want something even less than 1".
