I use a two drawer cabinet where one drawer has an interior drawer mostly for pots and pans with framed cabinets. For frameless I use a 3 drawer. For inset either the 2 drawer OR with some brands a 3 drawer but eliminate the rail between the two bottom drawers.

The purpose is to gain vertical height and get a drawer that is deep enough to allow fry pans to be placed on their sides using dividers, pasta set etc. Having two drawers eliminates one rail which adds 1.5" to the total available vertical space. The interior drawer uses side mounts so then there are only two undermount glides gaining another 3/4" vertically.

Generally only use one in a kitchen. I agree with using more 4 drawers even with framed.

Examples of utility are Pots on the bottom and lids on theinner drawer above; case of water bottles on the bottom and gatorade on the inner drawer above for the kids that are grabbing drinks for sports.

Main advantage is flexibility, the drawer in a drawer can be moved around inside without buying different drawer fronts.
