I have white non-shaker cabinets on order so I appreciated this thread. I started feeling like I broke some secret rule by not going the shaker route.

I'll link a white cabinet thread below with a lot of good ones. Shaker is popular (and easy to choose), but tons of people choose something else. I know what you mean, but I've never thought of it as modern. One of the first pieces of furniture my husband and I bought 20+ years ago was a TV cabinet with shaker style doors. I've always equated it with traditional New England.
