IMO a good copper sink is too expensive for a guest bath.

And a cheap one is a PITA.

Anything with an artificial finish inside the sink will eventually scratch and become a natural brown copper patina like a genuine copper penny. It won't go back to match artificial patina. Chances of scratches are less in guest bath than kitchen but the odds will eventually catch up to you.

Cheap sinks rarely have correctly angled floor across the entire sink. So water tends to sit there and not drain creating potential mold fungus issues. Hammered sink floor adds to the problem.

We have copper sinks in both of our bathrooms. They're good quality - 16 gauge, I think. Not terribly expensive, and so far they're holding up just fine. They came with matching (copper?) faucets...We got them from JHE Log Furniture Place; they each came with a can of cleaner, but mostly I just wipe them down with the Windex that I also use on the bathroom counters. They do have patina - they look like old copper pennies, not new ones.

Deeageaux -- thanks for the Rachiele link. I do know him, but in all honesty, I am not quite up for the jingoism or chauvinism or frankly, the price! I agree they're beautiful sinks. This one is for a guest bath and it won't get more than hand-washing occasionally.

Gladys -- thanks for the link to JHE. I think some of their things look like they come from the site I'm thinking about using, http://stores.ebay.com/DECOARQ-SINK-STORE I like the copper towel racks they sell on the site! I appreciate the pointer.

Given how little the sink will be used, I may try to give it a try. I think if there's no waxing the copper itself has antibacterial qualities that might help with the pooled-water problem...

But I do think it's probably worth aiming for the 16 and not 18 gauge. That is what they have at JHE.
