I agree about the racks. I bought a Frigidaire Gallery. I didn't occur to me to look for this: there are large gaps in the sides and bottom of the top rack that limit how I can place items. I had a small butter dish lid fall through and break.

LOVE my 7 year old Miele Novotronic with the optional cutlery tray. We have an open concept kitchen. Guests don't even realize that we have turned on the dishwasher that is steps away from our dining table - it is that quiet. Installation was annoyingly expensive, but we have only needed one repair when some broken glass got into the works.

I have Thermador, which is essentially Bosch, for 7+ years now. Quiet, wash well and I like the way they load. Works for me. Over the past decade, I would say I see more satisfaction with Meile, Bosch and some with Kitchenaid than other brands. I had a KA I liked, but they changed the racking and they didn't work with my dishes when we replaced in this house.

Loading is an important consideration, especially if you have large or coupe shaped plates, bowls that are larger or deeper than average, etc. If you buy an upper half model, you should get pretty decent wash results and quiet operation.

Miele is the only way to go. The cutlery racks are really useful but you can also use a basket instead. I like that they have a space for cutting boards. Miele is reliable and their dws last a long time. They are super-quiet. I got one with a console so I could read the lights on when the cycle is finished.

I have a 10 y.o. Miele which has never had a repair (I should stop writing this so I don't jinx it). When we reno'd our apartment I bought a newer one and it did even more. I would not have another brand.

Since you don't seem to do dishes very often you might consider an 18" Miele. Might not be less but it is one of the few appliances still built for long service.

Based on my experience with two dws over a decade I can highly recommend it.
