Kitchen Island/table

We are building an Island/Table with a granite top. The granite top is 74" long and 46" wide, 2cm thick. The cabinet is 24" inches deep and runs the width of one end of the granite which leaves about 44" of over hang for the table. We have an oak pedestal we are using for the centre of the overhang and setting the granite on a sheet of plywood that runs the full underside of the granite. Is this strong enough to support the granite without legs on the corners? Im hoping not to have legs.

RE: Kitchen Island/table

I'm having trouble visualizing your layout. So is your cabinet is 24" x 74" or 24" x 46"? Do you mean 22" of overhang per side, or 44" of overhang on one side?
