Carrara Tumbled marble. This isn't a backsplash, but it IS tumbled Carrara, and it'll give you an idea of what it looks like:

You might even think about picking up a piece of 12x12 soapstone tile and cutting it into small squares or rhomboid diamonds to use as accents scattered throughout the backsplash

I think cararra marble would be the way to go, too. I am not sure if you want your bathrooms and kitchen to all have the same "look" or not, but it would be sharp in the kitchen.

If you want to go with something else, I would suggest staying with something that is on the lighter side. But that does not mean it has to be boring.

These are from Ann Sacks. There are a lot of tiles there that can give you an idea for things that are a little different, but still classy. However, I do not think you could go wrong with carrara.

This is not soapstone but maybe this is a good idea.
