ISO photos - white cabinets with blue island?

Posted by mfhoop (My Page) on

I think we want to do white cabinets (sorry, I know this is a tired idea...) with soapstone counters but I think I'll want a pop of color. Current idea is to have a dark blue island (probably still with the soapstone top) that would "go with" the loads of polish pottery I have. Anyone done/seen something similar?

Thanks!

I just saw the latest issue of Old House Interiors, April. The cover of the mag has a white kitchen with blue island. "Cottage kitchens" they're calling it.

Hey, I just checked their website, and it's there!

Here is a link that might be useful: OHI

I just wanted to encourage you to "just do it". Blue and white are my favorite. If I had an island I would have made it blue...alas, I have a pennisula, so I stuck with all white cabinets and put the blue on my backsplash.

Good Luck....I'd love to see when you're done.

Sort of. Hope these help, even though they aren't exactly the right color blue. I love the idea, although a dark island with dark counter *might* end up looking like a big dark hole. We looked at a dark blue, but the color from the cab company ended up reading almost black. (We ended up doing a custom color anyway, but that was after I had forgotten about the blue. Oh well.)

I painted my old cabinets cream on the uppers and a dark blue (almost black) on the lowers. I really liked the blue - and we're still going with a two tone-- but not blue (to get a deep blue paint we would have had to go to a more expensive cabinet manufacturer). Abbey Hill cabinets and Decora both have a dark blue finish. I think a wood countertop on the island (walnut, other butcherblock) would look great

Not everyone is tired of white kitchens.
And I think Blue and White is amazing!
Here are a few ideas I hope they inspire you to go
with Blue and white. I am one fan.

This kitch would look even better with soapstone.

mfhoop - I had to cringe when I read "sorry, I know this is a tired idea". Please, please, please don't think you ever need to apologize for how you want YOUR kitchen. Boxerpups and Segbrown have provided examples of beautiful kitchens with the blue & white color combination for proof that it's a winning combination. That 2nd one in segbrown's post is just amazing.

I also want to encourage you to go for it. Find the style and color you like and ENJOY the journey!

Somebody here has a lake house, I think in North Carolina, that has a blue, bi-level island with soapstone. I think (but am not sure) that the perimeter cabs were white. I had bookmarked a link to it, but alas, it no longer works (snif!) and I tried searching, but couldn't find it.

Anybody know the one I mean? Wood floors, nice view out the window. It was from a couple of years ago. It wasn't dark blue, but rather a medium-ish blue (similar to the first one tha segbrown showed).

This month's House Beautiful is devoted entirely to blue, and there are a couple of blue kitchens.

The House Beautiful blue and white kitchen is pretty close to the color I'm thinking about - thanks for pointing me there - I always forget about that site. boxerpups - yours are great options too. Thanks!!
