We decided against it for that very reason. Who knows, but it just seems like something wouldn't age well to us.

A nice under cabinet hood will always exist. It may not be "in style", but it will never be out either.

I'm also interested in this topic. And also wondering if they're harder to dust or keep clean as I've seen a few complain that they're dust magnets. And if you have one currently, would you opt for an undercabinet one next time?

I replaced a 3-year old SS under-cabinet hood in my old kitchen with a chimney hood in the new. The top does need dusting and I hate dusting. To clean the chimney section thoroughly, I need to get out the stepladder, so that's a spring and fall-cleaning chore.

A new hood wasn't in the original lay-out, but my kitchen is small and my new cabs are cherry to the ceiling, and I was concerned about too much wood cabinetry. I tried to find the least modern look in a chimney style since our style is transitional.

I like the pro-style SS canopy hoods, which look more traditional and are easier to clean. They were out of the budget since we were replacing a barely-used under-cabinet hood just for looks in the remodel.

I'm still sad that I couldn't get the SS chimney hood that I wanted, but the consolation is that I don't have to dust it. I had to hide an AC duct in the cabinet along with the range hood ducting, so the chimney had to get nixed.

I don't see the point of trying to guess what is going to be trendy in the future. I just read in another thread that staggered cabinets look dated, and my sister just redid her kitchen that way last year and she loves it. I think it looks great, too.

If someone isn't telling us what's in, what's out, and what's trendy and what's not, we'd never know the difference and we'd be happy with the things we pick because they are the things that WE LIKE. To me, the point is to enjoy it NOW, in the present.
