Well we have a water cooler (the kind with the big 5 gallon bottle on top) so it's probably like what you have. We too love the cold filtered water and I didn't want a ref with a door dispenser. (They take up room inside the fridge, and for me the water comes out too slowly.)

Anyway I'm posting in case this helps: we put our water cooler into a tall pantry cabinet. That way we get the nice cold water without having to see that big blue bottle all the time. We just told the cabinet makers to cut a hole in the back and install the outlet to plug it in. We have a couple of inches of space behind the cooler for ventilation.

If you don't find a chiller/filter solution, maybe this can be plan B.

I'm glad you posted this because I was looking for ideas too. I've read too many stories of problems with ice/water in the door of the fridge. Especially since I was hoping for a bottom freezer.

We were considering a whole house water filter. This is an interesting solution I hadn't considered yet.

chicagoans - thanks - that is a great idea if the under sink type does not work out - never thought of concealing it that way.

I have an in-door water dispenser in my current house, but I really don't like it - not cold enough (hence the water cooler) and I don't like the look of it.

ayerg73 - I have never had problems with my in-door water - I just don't like it. We will have a water softener for the whole house, but I really only want to filter drinking water - I think? We have never had to deal with whole house water softeners/filters before and I find them confusing and complicated - so may different opinions out there.

I have seen the chillers mentioned in a number of kitchen reveals here - including taggie's beautiful kitchen just revealed, so I hope someone with one will weigh in.

Hi kfhl, thanks for the kind comments. We love the chiller and I totally recommend it. These are the ones we bought:

The chiller is small enough that it fits under our 18" bar sink behind a pullout trash container. Nice and compact! The temp is adjustable from 33 degrees to something over 40 ... we have ours set at 37 which I find is just right.

We also bought the filtration system and it all fits in there perfectly: InSinkErator Filtration System F-201

taggie - thanks so much for the information and the picture. Seeing it in place and knowing that you like it really helps. I am planning on installing it under a bar sink as well and I never imagined I would be able to fit it behind a trash pullout -that is great!
