OK, here is my finished yellow kitchen thread! Can't believe it is here!
I can't thank ALL of you enough (or at least those who shared in my vision!) for all the help. Like most of us I really spent so much time on every decision. I joke that nothing happened by accident.
There are so many of you that contributed your thoughts and ideas but I want to especially thank lavender_lass and marcolo for all of their wise words and helping me find and stay true to my vision.

BEFORE: This project included pushing out the entire back of our 1950 Cape 7 feet. Also, removing about 5' of our living room wall which involved moving the basement steps over. Removing a wall between the dining room and kitchen, adding a covered porch. We also did all new siding and other exterior things but I'll stick to inside.

Kitchen was originally a galley measuring about 19' x 9 1/2'. Dining Room was about 8 1/2' wide. Now it's really one large room 28' x 16 1/2'. Kitchen side alone is 16' x 16 1/2'

Choosing reveal photos was worse than narrowing down pics for our Wedding Album! SO sorry in advance for the quantity! Hopefully you'll never have to ask me for more pics : )

I also love the 3 lights on the top so it's less busy and easier to clean!

Ooh...I get to be the first one to comment! From one yellow kitchen owner to another.....congratulations!!!! It's just absolutely beautiful! It's like my kitchen's elegant big sister. ;)

The tile you chose is just fantastic...great texture and creaminess to complement the yellows and whites. The island top is just gorgeous! And the marble is perfect...my husband still wants to put in marble in the future...it's hard to say no when seeing it against your yellow here!

The yellow you chose is just perfect and the placement of it really shows off all of the pieces. Enjoy it in good health and for many years to come!

RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

You have one of the most memorable kitchens I've seen. It is playful, sweet, stylish, sophisticated--I could go on for a while. Congratulations on staying true to your vision and creating such a beautiful, inspired space.

 o
RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

Stunningly beautiful!!!! Thanks for sharing.

RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

Aaaaaaaaaaaah . . . your kitchen feels like coming home. Perfect.

 o
RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

Fishies - Great reveal....and loved all the pictures! Congratulations it is beautiful!

 o
RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

Holy cow. Just fantastic.

Fishies, you've done a better job from start to finish than almost anybody else I've seen on GW. You began with a very cohesive vision, you put together fabrics and lighting at the same time you were thinking about paint and tile, you use advice and suggestions better than anybody--and the result all paid off. Congratulations. It's all you!

 o
RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

You did it, Fishies! Congratulations on a beautiful, unique kitchen. I confess that I was hoping for a little glimpse of you in one of the photos. :)

 o
RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

Wow wow wow. Absolutely gorgeous. So many wonderful details, highly functional. You did a fantastic job. The space is so warm and inviting. Love those sliding glass doors between the living room and kitchen. Now just enjoy using the kitchen every day and for many years to come!

 o
RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

Oh, it's beautiful! All the details look amazing. I love the window, and the island storage, and paper towel storage, broom closet, cabinet door style, well, just about everything, really. All your choices came together perfectly.

 o
RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

Gorgeous! I love everything about it. Would love to see the outside also!!

 o
RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

Oh my gosh! Besides looking gorgeous, your kitchen has incredible storage utilization. I'll be going through each and every glorious picture one by one in detail to figure out how we too can incorporate the ideas.

This is a kitchen that is not only beautiful on the outside but equally beautiful on the inside.

Thanks for taking all that time to post the pictures. You really needed to, to show off the magnificent results.

 o
RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

Wow. When is your kitchen going to be featured in a magazine? That is so beautiful, fishies! Your cabinets are obviously excellent quality and the details are impeccable. Love the feet and the edge treatment and the open glass on the sides of the uppers. What a lovely, lovely space that you have created! Everything looks just perfect. Your little drawer/pullout organizers are very clever and I may be using your under sink pullout idea.

How wide is your trash/paper towel cabinet?

You must be loving it in there. It's so nice and the light is wonderful, too. I'm so happy for you!

May have some more questions as I peruse the pics at length.

Love the stools, btw and may I say one of my favorite decorative items in there is that little yellow pitcher with the blue birdie on the handle.. I said "awww.." and smiled when I saw that. Very sweet space. You've done an excellent job. There is so much more to say but I want to go over the pics again. Bravo to you!!

 o
RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

Beautiful! Love everything about your new kitchen. How do you like the induction? Impressive organized space.

 o
RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

It was an amazing journey following your project from start to finish. Everything turned out flawlessly.
To think it all started with the fabric swatch.
Just to add, we can never see too many pictures. As a matter of fact, I am looking forward to seeing the rest of your finishing touches.
Enjoy your beautiful kitchen:)

 o
RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

Words aren't enough, it is perfect. Every little detail. Congrats.

Thanks for all the pictures, never too many!

I really enjoyed reading through your post. I think your kitchen is amazing. I love the choices you made. Enjoy!

 o
RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

Ohhhhhhhh....ooooOOoooooooooooohhhhhh.

1) I'm hurt you didn't mention me in your credits for my unfailing, stress-relieving wit & my insanely funny sense of humor. But I'll get over it. Someday.

2) I love your

  • living room writing desk
  • dining room table
  • matching toaster!! What a perfect color!
  • garbage drawer layout. Just what I'm looking to do.
  • drawer with 2 doors, which is how I'm retrofitting my credenza!
  • undersink pull-out. I'm making a drawer and will have higher sides. Towel rack is PERFECT!!
  • colors. Ohhhh, how soft, fresh and beautiful.

(Now I'll pause while I go back through the pictures so I don't miss anything or forget any questions... Please hold)

    Your

  • stools! Such a great, perfect shade
  • goldfish in the glass
  • hood. Subtle and a very sophisticated touch, as is your
  • tile. Subtle! Clean, but offering texture
  • glass doors!!! Normally only seen in those ultra modern, cold, gudzillion dollar magazine homes. These couldn't be more perfect with the lights on the top!

    How you

  • carried the yellow into the living room
  • how the sun comes in your window over the sink and
  • how you've thought of every little detail and you've
  • used every single speck of space without fussy-ness or loss of open feeling.

There are some pretty amazing kitchens here on this board. Incredibly well put together. I think you've covered pretty much each and every "I want" any GWer has wished for. Really, I can't think of anything you've left out. Except the pool boy and butler. But I guess the former is out of season and the latter has yet to be hired.

How do you feel about the rest of the house!?! This is so perfect.

Oh. I'm using an RGB decoder to get the colors my monitors (yes, plural) show. I know the names, but mine resolve several different ways depending upon your lighting. I'm going to find a way to get those colors into my strange little house.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
    Or, honesty...
I'm sorry you worked so hard for such a failure. You start taking it down and I'll haul it away for you. I have a truck and lots of time. Where is it you said you live? I'm here for you, Fishies. You can start again and may be get it right.....

    (I gotta go look again.)

RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

May be my favorite painted cabinets kitchen I have ever seen. Just beautiful and sweet without being overdone or frilly. I adore the color yellow you chose and the other finishes are over the top. A huge congrats.... I know how great it feels to have your space be a complete reflection of you. You should be very very proud.

     o
RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

Wow! Wow! Wow! I never would have picked it, but I totally LOVE it! Great job. I think I remember reading your thread on your layout and the sliding door/french door dilemma... I have been on GW long enough to see your kitchen come to fruition! Great job. You have a beautiful home.

     o
RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

I almost have no words as my mouth has dropped at how gorgeous your kitchen is. And so much attention to utilizing every space so efficiently (the key and broom cabinets come to mind and I LOVE what you did with the desk in your kitchen w/the bulletin board hidden behind the door). What incredible vision you had - thanks for sharing so many pictures!

     o
RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

I have been waiting for this.

I don't even know where to begin. I love everything about your kitchen. Such detail and planning. And it is perfect for your house.

You did a fantastic job. It really came together perfectly.

Gorgeous!!! You did an excellent job in tying it all together. Love the yellow accents! Those countertops are amazing! It all feels modern in a traditional farmhouse way! With all the bells and whistles and functionality of a kitchen that can be more than just a showpiece!

RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

Lovely! So warm and inviting. And looks so nicely organized, I'd like you to come and organize my kitchen! I'm intrigued by the paper towel pull out; I've seen cubbies but not a pull out like that with space for extra rolls. Very clever!

Love the yellow, the counters, the glass doors... it's clear you put a lot of thought into this and it turned out beautifully!

     o

     o
RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

Even more gorgeous than I expected--and I expected a lot.
I ENVY you the space--surely, at least for a year or two--enough drawers and counter space!
    And perfectly conceived and executed.
Wish I could come by, open drawers to admire efficient use of storage, and pet the beautiful surfaces. Guess I'll have to do it vicariously.

I'm going back and look at the photos again. Not one too many of them, by the way.

Thank you so much for sharing.
    Sandra

RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

Well it's even better than I knew it would be. Completely lovely.

So ... what's your favorite part?

The finish on your cabinetry, by the way, is divine.

     o
RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

Swoon. Gorgeous. Incredible. Sure, go ahead and publish my new "inspiration photos" AFTER I am nearly done with my remodel!! ;-) Would that I had taken as much care in selecting my yellows as you did.

    Congrats. It is fantastic.

RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

Absolutely one of the most gorgeous kitchens I have seen! I love it and I love the color! You did a fantastic job! I like all the little details you put into it, like the furniture base with quarter round, the open shelves, the drawer dividers, the glass lights etc. etc. I need to study the pictures some more for ideas for my own kitchen! May I ask, how deep are your open shelves? Also, am I safe in assuming that without the appliances and room expansion, this was a big ticket remodel just for the cabinets? Were they made by a kitchen shop or the Amish or a private cabinet maker? They are beautiful! Are they all wood or are the panels MDF board?

     o
RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

That's about the best kitchen I can remember here on GW.
There isn't even the smallest detail that hasn't been considered.
Congratulations on a job fantastically done.

Perfection! Your kitchen is stunning. I LOVE everything about it. You must be so happy and proud!

     o
RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

From another happy yellow kitchen owner (yet to be revealed): congrats on such a beautiful space! I had settled on "yellow" before you began your lengthy color trials, but if it were not for you, I am not sure I would have known just how tricky a custom yellow cabinet can be and how carefully one should work to get it right (for me, it started with 14 Benjamin Moore samples from which I ultimately chose Good Vibrations). You also gave me confidence that I was not crazy -- at least not in choice of kitchen color schemes. Thanks for bringing lurkers like me along for the ride. Enjoy and, as my grandmother would have said, use it in good health!

RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

Beautiful! My favorites in no particular order are the cabinets, the walnut island, and the broom closet - what a great idea that was. I can't believe the attention to detail you put into this kitchen; it is perfect.

     o
RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

I love it!! Gorgeous, one of the best kitchens I have seen. I love love everything about it, well done

     o
RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

I wish that parallel universes existed. In one I would have my kitchen, and in another I'd have a copy of yours! Hope that doesn't sound creepy. ;)

I still haven't digested all your pics (though it's great that you posted so many!), but I LOVE every detail I've seen in your cheerful yet soothing kitchen.

     o
RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

It's evident that a lot of time and care went into designing your kitchen. It's unique and not cookie cutter. I love the backsplash and how you used square tiles in a stacked pattern, and I'm a complete subway lover.

Hope you enjoy your kitchen for many years to come.

     o
RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

Definitely magazine material. That is one absolutely beautiful kitchen. Every detail works. I love your BS, the walnut island, the collection of period pieces, the glass knobs, the key cupboard, the toaster and the cover on the mixer, but my favorite part, hands down, is your paper towel cubby! That is the best one I have ever seen, just brilliant. I wish I had seen something like that when I was doing mine. You have set the standard for all future paper towel cubbies.

    Congratulations!

RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

What a beautiful kitchen. You must love waking up to that every morning and enjoying your first cup of coffee. Every detail of function and style has been so well thought out. I love your sliding glass doors - those are ingenious.

Stunning. going back to look at your pictures again.

     o
RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

Terrific! I love the thoughtful details like the key cupboard, sliding doors, and narrow broom closet. I'm excited to see how the banquette turns out! Enjoy!

RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

What a pretty custard and vanilla kitchen! Just the setting for making great family memories. Love the bling of the Gilmor pulls and the glass knobs. The duck's bill detail on your cabinet edges are really lovely. I really really like your backsplash tile.

I credit you for being a good listener and keeping your eye on the true north. The kitchen is testament to your vision and persistance. So many many people were involved and interested in your process and it is nice to see it all come together. The process of decision making for this kitchen was almost as interesting as the final outcome. Congatulations.

     o
RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

wow! I've been having panic attacks the last 2 days over all the decisions (or lack thereof on our part!!) and this gives me hope that it will actually get done and hopefully half as gorgeous as yours! I am definitely bookmarking this for the ideas and inspiration! Beautiful!!

     o
RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

I am in yellow bliss, what a beauty of a kitchen (heck, the whole house is adorable!), congratulations on pulling it off so stunningly, Fishies.

     o
RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

Congratulations! So many wonderful little details and touches. You kitchen will be sure to be used as an example of little functional details and touches that really complete a design. Love the key holder and towel cabinets, and the multi-sided glass cabinets.

     o
RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

Love your kitchen. Beautiful and functional. So appropriate for your home, too. It is delightful. Those drawers with removable slots are brilliant. Wish I had one of those for my pyrex baking pieces.

RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

Haven't yet read all the comments, but just wanted to chime in and congratulate you on creating such a beautiful space. I love so many of the details you incorporated. But I'm over-the-moon for your cabinets. Love the color!

     o
RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

I've been waiting for this. Congratulations--it's wonderful! I think you made all the right choices. Love the colors, love the little key cabinet. Enjoy your lovely kitchen.

     o
RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

Just gorgeous, congratulations! Perfect for your home and such great use of space and organization.

For fun I googled and found your first posts where you were considering a very baroque kitchen. I remember thinking "oh, no!". I am no expert on kitchen design so I didn't contribute, but it was wonderful to watch your progress and evolution of your vision into this...perfection! Enjoy!

     o
RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

You created a functional and beautiful kitchen. I love all the details but especially your cabs. Enjoy your space!

     o
RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

Wow. You must be smiling from ear to ear every morning when you wake up. It is so gorgeous. And not just wonderfully functional, wonderfully crafted gorgeous. No- what you have is function, craftsmanship and personality.
I love it. The crystal knobs, the gorgeous tile, the little birdy KA cover, the spectacular pendants. It is all just so special.
Enjoy every moment, it is a kitchen gives itself over to much happiness- past, present, future!

RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

    LOVE. IT.

Love the buttery, butterscotchy, not-baby-shower-pastel yellow. Yummy, warm, and comfortable.

Love the light fixtures that I would never thought to choose, but are so great here! Unique while still suiting the room.

Love the doors that separate the rooms. Do you ever close them? We have pocket French doors between our kitchen and dining room. We sometimes close them when it gets noisy in the kitchen, which is nice. But rarely close them when we eat in the dining room, which is actually why I wanted them. ;-)

Love the pattern in the backsplash tile. What color are those tiles? In some pics, they look yellow, and in some they look white. Were you considering a more patterned and more yellow backsplash at one point? I was expecting something less quiet.

Love the cabinets, but the area I really love most is the baking wall. The balance with the yellow bases and tall cabs wrapped around the white uppers is PERFECT. So homey and cozy and just right for old-fashioned baking!!

Love the fun yellow accents. They're all great. I saw your dishes when my girls were looking for dishes to list on their wedding registries and fell in love with the style and that exact color.

Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy. One of those 'masterpiece' kitchens in which every part work well together to form one wonderful whole.

Still speechless. Searching for words, though none really do it justice. I really think your kitchen incorporates nearly every neat idea I've ever seen on GW - along with my favorite materials. It also has an amazing design sensibility besting the work of most KD's.

Those doors separating the LR from the DR are brilliant.

You've got to be feeling so good about this transformation. Congratulations!

     o
RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

Wow...love everything about your kitchen. Have saved tons of your pictures as we are in the process of redoing our (small) kitchen. You have given me some cool ideas...thanks.

RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

Fabulous details! You have done a wonderful job.

(DH and I had a white Cape with green shutters and a white picket fence as our first home when we married. It was built by a builder for his family--solid, heavy wood doors and trim, lath and plaster, a jewel box really. Was sad when we had to find larger quarters. Love your place.)

RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

Fishies - it's beautiful! So warm and inviting and full of character. Great job. So many great elements I can't choose just one, I think my mouse wheel finger is cramping from panning up and back on all those great pictures! Enjoy that wonderful space!

     o
RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

That is one beautiful kitchen. You chose the shade of yellow well, I once ended up with a cupboard looking like a school bus. Congrats. I love everything about it and echo what others have said.

     o
RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

Stunning!! Like someone else said, I wouldn't have chosen it, but I would take it in a New York minute. Just beautiful!

I "stole" 5-6 pics to send to my cabinetmaker :)

How are you liking the Elux Icon double ovens? I have purchased those, but they haven't been delivered since my kitchen is no where close to being ready for them, but I'm hoping they will be worth the wait :)

     o
RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

I have no words, your kitchen is simply amazing. You have done magic with this space, your use of color --the hues and shades you have chosen -- as well as the materials have resulted in an elegant, classic, yet stand-apart-from-the-crowd uniquely beautiful kitchen.

Thank you so much for posting all of these pictures, I loved looking at all of the details.

    So DELICIOUS!!!!

Like a glass of homemade (yellow!) lemonade, it's light, just enough sweetness, with a hint of effervescence! Perfection!

What a wonderful and well thought out space! Truly magnificent. What are the dimensions of your command center? I have a 3 feet area that I plan on making a command center similar to yours. I want to house a paper shredder and printer. Can you open the top cabinet and take some pictures too? Thank you so much!!

     o

Like stacylh, I've stolen a few ideas for mine!

Thank you for sharing your stunning photos!

RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

I'm so happy to see it all come together! You've been so engaged on the boards about your kitchen that I really feel we've been on this journey with you. So many nice things to say about it: pretty, feminine, fun, and functional.

It's interesting how different the color of the tile looks in the different pictures, from almost white to almost a butter yellow. Does the color shift in real life depending on the lighting, or is it the photography?

     o
RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

wow, it is lemon meringue perfection!! everything seems in place. all of your attention to detail really shows. i especially love your baking area and the cozy for your kitchenaid mixer.
you should have included a super close-up shot of the cute glass two little fishies, i guess where you got your name?

     o
RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

What a beautiful kitchen! I've been away from GW for a while, and so glad to be back. Glad to see such a beautiful functional kitchen. I will be bookmarking some of your pics - there weren't too many!!!! LOVE IT!

RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

Oh my! That is one of the most beautiful, inviting, personalized, organized, timeless, and quality-oozing kitchens that I have ever seen anywhere! What an achievement of perfection in color, function, layout, appeal, and every other thing. I love every inch of it, from the gorgeous windows and doors, to the island, the marble, and the tile. What a remarkable and memorable space you've created. The banquette will certainly be some sweet icing, and I will watch closely to see it. The attention to detail shows, and the cabinetry is spectacularly beautiful, and uniquely functional.

Does the paper towel cubby slide on a left side rail?

Congratulations on an all-time winner! Can you tell that I just love it!

     o
RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

lol, someone said kitchen porn! seriously, I cannot take my eyes off it, my jaw is dropped and I sorta have tears in my eyes!!

    Congratulations!!

You will have so many responses, but if you see this, could I ask you for the dimensions of your island, and your aisle widths?

And where is your cabinet maker? I am in SE PA...

    Its stunning!

RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

    T H A N K Y O U ! ! !

First of all, as I read through all the comments I saw so many names and remembered how some of you may have contributed to my kitchen in some way. That is why I didn't want to list people b/c I don't want to leave anyone out! I hope it suffices to say Thanks and you know who you are if you had a part : )

(why do I feel like I'm accepting an Academy Award??? They ARE in February, right?)

Without sounding crazy, I really am in heaven each time I walk into the kitchen, get to have a cup of tea, talk on the phone, bake muffins.... I find myself just staring at everything and running my hands along the marble... LOL

Our GC really loved it and wants to have professional pics done in the spring. He does homes in our area that are millions of dollars and on all the house/kitchen tours. Ours is just a small, cute home-- but we love it. His comment that our kitchen could stand up to any of the "tour kitchens" really made me feel proud!

Let me scroll up and see what questions were asked---

deedles- the trash/towel cabinet is 14 3/4". I recommend reading my paper towel thread b/c we had a dowel that I didn't love and replaced it with a better mechanism.
    http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/kitchbath/msg062053474329.html?1

rtwilliams- LOVING induction so far : ) Quick, efficient, responsive and easy to clean!

CEFreeman- LOVE your posts! They do always make me smile! We love the house. We did a BIG downsize from a nearly 4000 sq ft house to a now 1700 sq ft HOME. We have two children. We love this house and are hoping it will suit our needs. (I'll never want to leave this kitchen now! And that's where everyone hangs out anyway right?) The living room is our family room which is why we added the doors. The 2 kids rooms are upstairs with a small loft which is their playroom and there's a full bath for them.. SO, they have a little suite of their own and our Bedroom and the main bath is off a small hallway off the living room. We want to finish the basement so they have some more space as they get older.
We love the area we live in and also love having a pool, the school and park across the street and we're walking distance to our downtown where there are a handful of restaurants, ice cream, A&P, pharmacies.... also we are a few miles from the beach! SO, what more could we want? Well, Maybe the butler and pool boy but then we'd have to get a bigger house... right?... hmmm. LOL

quiltgirl- My open shelves are 12" deep. I also had the cabinet maker put a plate groove in all the open shelving and glass cabinets. Presently, I'm only using it to stand up plates in the 2 upper cabs surrounding the hood but I thought it's good to have if I ever want to display plates, etc.
The cabs were all done by a custom PA cabinet maker. I THINK the panels are MDF b/c I believe they said they are better for some reason. Maybe having to do with wood moving? Now, I have to ask about that again. Yes, the cabs were pricey but reasonable at the same time for what we got. I did a lot of price comparing.

rhome- Thank you! Like I was saying to Christine, the doors were mostly b/c the LR is our family room space so we wanted to be able to close things off when the kids are doing hw in the kitchen and DH is watching TV. Or at night if someone (DH) is watching TV and I want to chat in the kitchen on the phone or have a glass of wine with a friend... Last week, I was baking and listening to music through the ceiling speakers and DH watched a movie. It's not sound proof of course but the sounds didn't compete at all! Once that space was nice and open between the 2 rooms, several people said, "Why are you putting doors? Why close it off?" but we knew it was right for us functionally and being I changed the design to glass sliders we got the best of both worlds.
The old swing french door we used to have between our Kitchen and DR was saved and we put it between the LR and hall where Master BR and main bath is. We love it so when someone goes to bed the TV noise gets cut down.

    DSC00810 photo file_zps40bf78e7.jpg

The backsplash tiles are a creamy white and hard to photo. Actually with the whole kitchen it's hard to take photos and get the color right (especially with my mediocre camera). You can see the white looks yellowy in some pics are bluish in others with flash. Anyway, I didn't like any of the whites they offered. Way too cool or sometimes pink.. so they did a custom color match to the BM Mascarpone but actually they are not a perfect match. I think I would ave liked them slightly whiter but they do read white most of the time and definitely aren't yellow. These were the only tiles I ever seriously considered. Before that I was thinking of a ceramic bead board but then found these and lavender_lass and I loved them : ) The pattern is more subtle than when the samples were lying on the table, etc. but I think it's just enough.

I love the Pottery Barn Emma dishes. I have them in yellow and white. They are a bit heavier than I wanted but were the perfect yellow (almost a perfect match to the cabs!) and I couldn't pass them up!

stacylh- Loving the Elux Icon ovens! No issues whatsoever so far : )

lzhwong- The command central is 4' 2" wide. The top is regular shelving and mostly empty at this point : )

homebuyer- The island is 9 feet by 51". The aisle on the eating side is 53" from countertop to countertop and on the working side of island it is 43" and 39" where the fridge is. I actually didn't think of the fact that the fridge would stick out from the cabinetry however it's only at the end of island and hasn't been an issue.

Hi 2littlefishies, I better post soon before you reach your 150 post limit!
What else can I add? Your kitchen is perfect in every detail!

I especially love the lovely yellow on your base cabinets,
your baking area, your backsplash tiles, your marble, broom closet, and bump out window.

I enjoyed experiencing your reno from start to finish.
Your posts were always some of my favorites because you had such vision,
such attention to detail, and such good questions from which we've all learned so much.

Bravo! And thanks for all the scrumptious pictures.
I've already returned to them several times today, soaking up all the details.

     o
RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

Wow, worth waiting for, Fishies. Your kitchen is spectacular!

I have to ask - how did you start this process, with an architect or an interior designer? Who did the kitchen layout? The hardest part of a major renovation is knowing who to contact first.

Your home is so charming, I just want to come and visit!

     o
RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

That is drop dead YUMMY!! What a beautiful, soothing, and utterly functional space, I adore your big window, that to die for baking center, OMG...that marble!!!, the gorgeous waterlox finish on your walnut (which sealed the deal for me, waterlox here I come), the pretty crystal knobs...just stinking amazin! marcolo- LOL-- literally!!! I should give her credit for that! Also her towel holder under the sink! ; )

I do wish GardenWeb was more private than it is. I don't mind people saving photos but pinning them on Pinterest etc isn't my favorite.

    We love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your amazing execution is a result of all the work you put into the planning. Congratulations, fishes... I think this will stand as the reveal of the year! I know exactly why you needed so many pictures; there's a lot of history behind each one.

(OTOH, am now so glad I got my reveal over last year. You're going to be one tough act to follow!)

RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

What are your drawer sizes and depths? Now that you are moved in to the space, in hindsight, are there any widths or depths you would have changed? I am struggling with my drawer sizes and have 20 drawers that are 5 and 6 inches deep. Also have 8 that are 12-13 inches deep. Cannot seem to fit in sizes in between that and keep my symmetry. Your kitchen is so well thought out! I wish you could do mine!

RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

Congratulations, Fishies! I remember your first posting and have watched your progress with great interest. To say, "Job well done" is such an understatement! If I were you, I would be sleeping on a cot by that big window in the DR so I could fall asleep looking at my gorgeous new kitchen (or I'd sleep on that beautiful island). :)

Yellow is such a tricky color to work with, but you picked a great hue! So rich without being too bright or pale--perfect! And your walnut island top is the perfect contrast against the cabinetry and beautiful marble. The devil is always in the details and you certainly conquered that devil. Thank you for sharing this journey with us. I'm sure you'll make many wonderful memories in your new kitchen!

Fishies - I am so happy for you. I recall your many posts identifying your vision. You did it my dear, you did it. I scrolled through every picture and kept going back to look. Absolutely the best designed kitchen in form and function. I can only imagine how much pleasure you receive from those fortunate to see it in real life. Congratulations on a job well done!

RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

What can I say that has not already been said --it is so lovely! The buttery cabinets, the wood topped island, the baking center, the seating area -- it is all so well thought out and so beautifully done. Now if I can gild the lily, I would like to make one tiny suggestion. How about having your cabinet making install a wood drip rail under the sink. It would take him (her?) half an hour and I think it would be a very subtle, but worthwhile addition. It would break up the flat stile between the sink and the cabinet doors beneath it and add some alight, but important, visual interest. I would paint it the same yellow as the cabinet so it would be extremely subtle. Check out pictures of drip rails under apron sinks and see what you think. Again, lovely, lovely job, congrats and enjoy, Lilly

Wow. I am really impressed by your attention to details, both the finishing details and all the organizational items. You clearly put a lot of thought into the project, and the final result is amazing.

RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

Wowee. Love everything about your new space. I am especially impressed with your storage solutions. You must be an extremely organized person. You should absolutely consider becoming a professional space designer if you are not already doing so now. Marketing your services to some custom cabinet makers is an opportunity to consider.
Congrats, so beautiful and so very functional.

Simply put, it's simply lovely. Thanks for all the pics. They are so helpful for those us us still in the planning stages. What a happy place. I can't wait to see your banquette.

     o
RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

If I could recreate a kitchen I would copy yours exactly ! (I would have tried if my darn house wasn't so modern). The details on your cabinetry are breathtaking. Who came up with all those ideas like the glass panels only at the top of some cabs and some of the slab drawers over two 5 piece drawers? It is all so unbelievably cohesive. And the hardware!! To die for! And the baking station and bar and broom closet omg.

Those glass sliding doors are pure genius.

One question - Where did you get that little mama bird ceramic plate??

I missed much of your planning process, are you a decorator? Kitchen designer?

RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

So many decisions, so much stress, but it was so worth it in the end. What a fabulous space you've created!

I was glad to see your photos of the snow--I was thinking what a lovely place your house would be to snuggle down and watch the storm. So serene inside, no matter what's happening outdoors.

What you have not done this time, 2LF, is repost your inspiration pic, which I found so appealing that I saved it way back when.

I cannot give you a greater compliment than to say that you absolutely captured its charm, with slavish copying.

I know this has been a long adventure for you and your family, but you really did knock it out of the park. Congratulations cubed.

Your kitchen is gorgeous. I never would have thought of yellow and white but seeing yours, I can see that it's a great combination, warm, bright, and cozy. And oh my, all your drawers! Thank you for showing so many pictures of the details. I've already saved an inspiration picture and I bet I'm not the only one. (Love your snow too.)

That is just amazing! The attention to detail, the crafstmanship, the functionality -- but most of all, it is just awe-inspiringly beautiful! I remember the very first inspiration picture, and the evolution into the yellow kitchen! Your dreams and dedication sure paid off! Enjoy!

     o
RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

You did an excellent job executing your vision. It is beautiful! Are you floors white or red oak? If so, what is the stain color? Thanks!

     o
RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

My absolute favorite part of your kitchen -- and that's a tough choice, given the number of appealing aspects -- is the glass sliding doors, with the 3-light 'transom'. Not only do they give the benefits of openness (light, connectedness) without the drawbacks, but just as important, they mark the transition from living room to kitchen as an entrance.

Also am drawn to your sink window; I'd resist window treatment of any kind, but that's me. It's a beautiful space that will tell you what if anything else it needs.

And I know I'm not alone among this storage-geek crowd in being knocked for a loop by the paper towel pullout. Let us know how this setup is working for you a few months in; if it's problem-free, the forecast is for widespread imitation!

Have enjoyed reading your posts and ensuing discussion, and have occasionally wondered about the origin of your handle. I'm a Dixie Hummingbirds fan, and it always reminds me of their song 'Two Little Fishes and Five Loaves of Bread'.

Thanks so much for the detailed tour.

     o
RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

Just looked through the pics again and want to compliment the lowered beam/soffit that separates the cooking and dining area. It's a subtler separation than the glass doors, but equally important at demarcating an area and making it feel a bit more intimate than it would without the beam/soffit. Was it a structural necessity, or added to achieve that demarcation? Beautiful job, either way.

     o
RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

Ditto what everyone else said. Your kitchen is better than the inspiration pic (which I like a lot).
If I dreamed of my perfect kitchen, it wouldn't have held a candle to yours.

     o
RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

2LF, OMG!!! absolutely so much detail and planning on your part and the results are STUNNING. Even in the middle of winter it's like happiness and sunshine in a warm and inviting way but so sophisticated at the same time.

You worked so hard to pull this all together and should be SO proud of your work. Congratulations!

     o
RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

Cozy! Warm! Inviting! Oh, so pretty! And it's clearly very personal, not at all a cookie cutter kitchen. I don't know you at all, but it's very clear it's your personal vision.

I looked quickly through your pictures, but I'm definitely going to have to go back and study things carefully because this is obviously very intelligently designed, not just a pretty face. I expect to learn a lot here.

I do have one question right now, if you don't mind. What made you do your pull out pantries in the style you did with the door that pulls out (I don't know quite what to call it.) rather than a door that swung out on hinges, which would allow you to stand in front of each pull out? Thanks!

RE: 2LittleFishies Yellow Kitchen Reveal !!! LONG!

As you can all imagine, I have enjoyed reading all the comments this weekend. I can't believe I am almost at 150 comments which is the limit! Kind of sad! lol I want to respond to everyone but they all would say "Thank You!"

I am SO happy because the kitchen turned out exactly as it was in my head for the past year! Sometimes that doesn't happen. I always thought, "It's not even possible I could ever be so lucky that it will look the way I am seeing it in my head." And it does!

berardmr- It all started with sitting down with my GC and his architect and coming up with the plan as far the bumpout, walls being removed, stairs moved, etc.. It changed in various ways several times before finalizing. DH and I had lots of input and communicated what we wanted. A custom cab maker did a kitchen plan although he backed out our job due to scheduling. That plan went to the cab maker we ended up using and he made some changes after our first meeting. From there I pretty much changed things regularly as I sat for hours - almost every night- analyzing EVERYTHING! (DH couldn't imagine what I could possibly be doing!)
The finishes, various pullouts, broom closet, keys, organizational were all things I requested. Same with the bumpout window and the sliding glass doors.

quiltgirl- When you say drawer depth, I think you mean their height as they are all standard 24" depth.
The top drawers are all 4 3/4" high (but the interior is 4 1/8"). I love the 2nd and 3rd drawers in the stacks are 9 1/2" high (8 1/2" in some places) and the pot drawers are 13". The drawer under the double ovens is 9 1/2" high which for the baking dishes would have been too short. However with the adjustable dividers I was able to make it work. The two drawers to the left of the fridge are 13". I wanted those for snacks and bread so went from three drawers to two. Love these! Everything is working out great.

lillyvt- Thanks for your comment! I did consider doing one a while back and decided not to. I appreciate the suggestion : )

mjocean- No, I'm not a space designer. lol I am organized, however! Maybe I should consider that! Thank you.

amandasplit-Presently, I am a mom. I taught Music and Spanish before having my children. (I studied Voice and Opera in college). I'm not a kitchen designer and never even looked at a kitchen magazine much until this process started a year and a half ago. I think that's why it took me a couple of months to really figure out my direction. I was new to the whole thing. THEN, I went head first and studied every magazine, website, and GW picture I could find. That's just me. I commit myself like crazy to what I am doing and then hope it all works out! : ) I do love to decorate but how often does one get to do that? GW was so helpful because reading other's posts would remind me of things I would need to think about! I think I asked about a new topic every couple of days. lol

The little ceramic bird dish (I use as a spoon rest) was purchased on Etsy. Thanks so much for the kind words!

lexmom- They are red oak and the stain is Provincial.

ellabee- Thanks so much! I am so pleased with the doors and am glad I ignored those who said not to put any. I also am leaning towards not putting a window treatment but I am going to wait until the banquette and the cushions get put on. I do feel like we could use a little fabric to absorb sound and soften things but like I said- I'm not going to rush into anything. The beam between the kitchen and dining area is structural but agree it does add a feeling of demarcation.

mamadadapaige- Thanks so much! And, thank you for your thoughts along the way as well : ) It definitely was worth the wait!

marcia59- The Pantries- I started a thread about this topic a while back. It was very informative. I'll put it below. I didn't want to have to open doors to roll out the drawers. Also with rollouts I've experienced where the doors sometimes get banged around if they aren't open wide enough of if you don't push the roll out all the way in the door bangs it when you close the door.
On the other hand with pull out pantries, it is one movement. That being said instead of having all the drawers attached to the main door, I decided to only have the top and bottom drawers attached so you can see inside better and have the option of only pulling out what you want to pull out. Also it becomes less heavy to open. People seems to have strong opinions on what is best. Ultimately I went with what I though we'd be more comfortable with. So far it is working really well : )
