What is "best" really depends on what's best for you. I've cooked on almost everything, and I want gas, unsealed burners a la Bluestar. I like induction, and if I could get a Fazar with those gorgeous ceramic surfaces, I'd do it. I don't think they're available anymore, and I don't like the glass tops (or the prices for what you're getting, or the fact that you may need to replace all your cookware...).

In terms of resale and luxury appliance value, I think any high end gas rangetop and induction surface would be acceptable.... however, gas rangetops give you the added flexibility of griddle or grill options.
