over the range warming shelf

We just got the range hood installed and it has these amazing warming lights! Now I need a shelf. i guess it should be wire and not solid so it doesn't interfere with the ventilation. Anyone have have one? Where did you get it without spending a fortune.

Hi Joan,
We're in the same boat. We have a 42" Thermador hood with warming lights, but a Wolf stove. We didn't like the backsplash/warming racks of either brand so we are going to customize the IKEA Grundtal 48" steel wall shelf by cutting the rails to the appropriate length with a pipe cutter. The backsplash will be subway tile and we are going to recess the brackets in the wall and then tile over them. We saw a precedent for this in a kitchen magazine. I'll see if I can track it down for you.

Try Ikea, they have a few that would work very well.

Ouuuuuhhhh! I don't have a suggestion for Joan, but I might be in this same spot also soon so I'd love to see Sandn's pic and see what you both end up with!

A few years back, I saved a thread about this...
ccoombs1 did it herself with an Ikea shelf, and she explains it pretty well in this thread...although there may be a better thread if you search...not sure...

sandn, thank you so much! I love that idea. Actually since my range is 36 inches, I think we can use the 31 inch shelf. I am going to do subway tiles also. probably krackle and use a grayish or light tan grout. My granite is giallo ornamental, and cabs are off white.

ETA: which I see has now been replaced by the Kungsfors series.
