Ok members....Here is what I don't understand. My new
microwave/oven unit has a 6' flex -4 wire- 10ga. So why do the
installation instructions want 8ga wire and a 40 amp breaker.
What am I missing? If I brought 8ga to the jbox, and the last 6' to the oven is in 10 ga, doesn't that mean a 30 amp breaker max? Why 8ga for the first 75' then the oven unit drops it down to 10ga for the last 6'?

Please help.

It's basically a function of wire length. The longer the wire, the more resistance (heat). Larger wires have less resistance. Follow the instructions and you will be fine.
