I just stack them on top of each other.

we got the idea from this website. Our cabinet maker put a slot all around the drawers that clips went in to install dividers where ever you want them.

Sorry, I don't have a picture but I think I bought my pot lid holder at Linen and Things or BBB. It kinda reminds me of a dish strainer/holder. It is a coated wire (sorry words escape me tonight) "container" that holds the lids upright. I love mine! Works great. Looks like what you put dishes inbetween in the dish strainer. I have tried to look it up on the internet and am getting a blank. However there is something similar from Rubbermaid. Link is below.

DH made mine. I know they are in a cabinet but I don't see why you can't have something similar in a drawer. I know you said you can't have them upright but with this one you can adjust the angle the lids stand at by making the dowels longer and putting them further apart.

I just keep mine in another drawer beside the pot drawer (same depth, about half as wide). They 'stack' kind of willy-nilly...However they land when put in.

Mine are stored with lids in place.

I have a micro drawer next to my cooktop. The pots and pans are in the drawers below the cooktop and the lids are in the drawer under the micro. Works well for us.

Lids are stored with the associated pots and pans...much easier that way!

Can you please explain a little more about the slot and the clips? Do you have a close up of the clips holding up the divider?

the cabinetmaker we used slots the drawers to provide for inserts/dividers. they can be attached sideways or front to back. they also put the slots in cabinets where you want large trays to go. They worked very nicely. The dividers are cut with slots that fit over the clips. Here's the pics:
