I agree, I would match the hood width.

Dissenting vote here, I would match the range.
Commercial ranges with the high integral back guards, often with shelves, almost always match the range width. The hood is treated as a separate component, wider to deal with rising effluent.
Just my 2 cents, do what you think looks best, and enjoy that Bluestar! I wish I had room in my kitchen for a 48" ;)

You will love your Bluestar, I have had mine since September...also 48 inches. I would agree with aligning back splash to the stove, not the hood. Google a bunch of photos.

ok, will try to google some photo's. I know the integrated backslashes you can buy match the range, but the larger hood was really thronging me off. Thanks for suggestions.

If there are no cabinets on either side, I don't think either one is right or wrong. In a commercial kitchen the hood is often much larger than the range, if not the entire wall.

But in a residential kitchen, if there are cabinets on each side, if you match the range rather than the hood you are left with a 3 inch sliver of wall between the edge of the stainless steel and the cabinets, for whatever the other backsplash or wall material is. I don't think I would want the three inch sliver.

Yes there will be upper cabinets on either size of the range top. Thanks for the picture above, I was having a hard time finding pictures where the panel matched the range top and hood was larger. So much easier to visualize when seeing a picture. Also had not thought about the sliver issue, I am thinking that would bother me too.
