I was planning to do a marmoleum floor in my kitchen.

But I'm struggling with where to transition from the hardwood. So now I'm considering just doing hardwood right through.

But part of the reason I wanted marmoleum was for cushioning. I want a soft floor in the kitchen. DH had suggested a gel mat. But I don't stand in one spot in my kitchen. So I'd need to basically blanket the whole working area.

Is there somewhere I can get a custom sized mat? Has anyone tried diy-ing it by glueing some lino to a cork backing, or something like that? Or would the edges curl up?

What about insetting the marmoleum? Would that be crazy or look weird?
