Did you look at Bertazonni? I've never had one so can't speak to their quality, but some of the models (Heritage Series) have a kind of vintage look and come in 48" in the $10k range. Check AJ Madison for some colors and prices.

We have a Lacanche. I think they are gorgeous and highly functional. Check out frenchranges.com. I doubt there is a 48" in your price range, but they have a multitude of sizes and are very customizable. You can keep costs lower buy getting black (the default and very classic) and planning head for the lower 6 month shipping fee. There are many happy Lacanche owners on this forum and threads with loads of information. We carved out more funds for the range and less for the rest of the kitchen and are very happy with our decision.

I bought a 30" Bertazzoni Heritage range......it's in the garage awaiting installation once our cabs are painted. It is absolutely gorgeous...workmanship is extraordinary!

I have a La Cornue 90, and it's been performing wonderfully. The Lacache has a similar sizes as well. Is there an existing gap you need to fill? Is there no solution with cabinetry or metal work?

Another suggestion, offered up with trepidation due to issues some people have reported -- the Ilve Majestic comes in 48" and has similar styling. However, the pricing is a bit above your target (12K).
