cast iron installation w/silestone issue - HELP!

template guy is here now and claims they have to create a "cradle" for support of the sink. My Kohler salesperson had said they don't need that. Kohler used to supply an extra support bracket but they no longer do because it is not necessary.

I do not want a cradle. I think I will have to sign off on it to avoid it. I don't want to do that either. I think Kohler should, but that's probably not going to happen either!

So, do any of you have a cast iron sink with silestone? with or without cradle? with or without extra brackets?

And my sink is only a simple single bowl.

I too bought a cast iron undermount kohler sink ORIGINALLY. The sales guy told me that you would need a cradle. I will be getting granite countertops installed. I ended up returning it and getting stainless steel sink. Not originally what I wanted, but I think it will turn out nice. I didn't want a cradle below it and lose alot of my storage space for cleaners etc I store under the sink.

I have a Kohler undermount cast iron sink with my granite and the guys who installed the granite hung supports underneath each side of the sink for support. Is guess it is called a cradle, but it does not show or take up any space. You have to crawl up under the sink to find it. Is the sink undermount or drop in?

I was able to get ahold of my Kohler sales rep and she insisted the stone guys DO NOT need the extra support. But the stone guys insisted they do.

Fortunately, she was able to find the Kohler brackets that no longer come with the sink. They are very unobtrusive. Stone guy happy. Me not happy about $45 extra, but par for the course.

After we got all that squared away, the template guy told me that if my sink was wider, they would simply attach 2x4's on each side cabinet for the extra support. Depending on the size of the cabinet of course. For a 36" cabinet and a 32" sink, it works out perfectly. If I had known that going into this, I would have picked a 32" sink. Oh well... maybe this will help someone else in the future.

Oh and yes this is for an undermount. Another solution could have been to install the sink as self-rimming (it is designed to be either), but I didn't want that.

just a follow up on this...

So I went and purchased the $45 brackets and they were here for installation day. When I went and got them for the installers, they said, "oh, we have those in the truck. That's what we'll be using because that's what your sink needs."

We compared them and they were identical. I returned mine.

So the moral of the story is don't believe what the "experts" tell you all the time. One hand doesn't know what the other hand is doing at the same company!!
