cabinet color?

Help, We are doing a total reno on our kitchen and my original plan was to use white shaker cabinets with ss appliances and soapstone counters. The floor, which will remain, is heart pine.
I am having second thoughts on the new white cabinets and am considering using a stained wood finish instead but which one? I don't want it to look too much like the existing room although the new design moves the appliances, the refrigerator will be on the right wall, and we'll have a peninsula coming out from the left.
What color cabinets would you use?

Watching with interest... I'm planning a total reno, and planning to go from current medium wood to white...

If you like white, I'd use white. If you look at homebuyer23's recent reveal, you can see a kitchen that went from white to white shaker and it does not look the same at all.

Hmmmm. The white does seem stark against your floor for some reason. Maybe because it's a lot of cabinetry. Will you be adding glass cabinets or otherwise breaking up the solid walls of cabinetry? It sounds like you'll be getting rid of the huge pantry, so that could help. Does white work with the other finishes and decor in your home?

Agree about the white looking stark, and I think for two separate reasons. The first is that the walls are also painted white, and the backsplash tiles are also white - so a lot of white. And, you have a lot of cabinets. I envy you the storage space, but I think it feels a little overwhelming to have no plan walls/shelving/artwork etc to break up the solid walls o'cabinet.

Consider using the same tone as the counters, on the bottom cabinets only. It would lessen the starkness, but not introduce another color. Google ' kitchen cabinets bottom color' for more examples.

I like that look unbiddenn and LOVE the shelves. Carrieb and may flowers have good points too in that there is just too much stark white. I had planned on using a bright blue green tile for the backsplash, maybe I'll go with a softer shade, a whole wall of bright might be too much. I am taking these pictures to the cabinet people to see if we can't tweak the design. Homebuyers thread was a great inspiration magsnj.

I think painting the walls and ceiling would make a huge difference - even changing the range from white to stainless would tone down the mass of white.

A color on the backsplash would also help a lot.

I love wood, and I'm not usually drawn to white cabinets, but I prefer the white in your kitchen, as a contrast to your lovely floors. They are the star of the show!
