I avoided the cost & bother of an extra door and put pantry drawers next to my fridge:

circuspeanut, how wide are your drawers? We are thinking about doing something similar in our mudroom in a narrow space next to the coat closet. Yours looks great!

Our pantry is next to our cd fridge but is in the eating area. The wall steps back there which makes the pantry look like it isn't as deep as the fridge but the pantry is standard cabinet depth (24"). I guess a 24" deep pantry next to a full depth fridge would have a similar appearance. Our pantry is 36" wide.

thanks to both of you for posting...zelmar i like how you have drawers on the bottom of the pantry...i haven't seen that before.

mgkinz--I'm really happy with the layout of the pantry. I didn't realize how handy the 2 deep drawers would be until I loaded the pantry and found the drawers contained odd shaped items and bagged items really well. I have lots of different pastas--boxed and bagged--and the bottom drawer is devoted to them. The drawer above has granola bars, trail mix, big bags of snack food, marshmallows, etc. I got the drawers because I needed a silverware drawer near our table.

Thanks, zelmar - the drawers are 8 3/4" wide and we made 'em ourselves. I can't decide whether to put knobs on them or not.
Because my drawers are open to the air, I use the bottom one as a potato and onion bin, which works great. :)

Here's our pantry. Adjustable wood shelves behind the four long doors and the shorter doors above them. The narrow door on the end is a broom closet.

Thank you, circuspeanut. I showed your cabinet to DH (the resident carpenter.) You gave me more ammunition for pushing for it---we don't have a good place for storing potatoes. I was afraid our space was too narrow for much of anything but I think we could get drawers that wide into it and it looks like they could be really useful.
