Look in the finished kitchens blog -- a poster named "Momto4kids" (or something like that) has a beautiful kitchen with two islands. I think they are perpendicular to the long sides of the room, though, not parallel like yours would be.

Not yet, but I will so I can't say how I like it. There's the center smaller island which is 5'x3.5' which will have the prep sink on one corner. The large island which basically divides the kitchen from the family room is quite large - 16' x 3' (cabinetry but will be larger with counter overhang) with a slight angle. This will have the main sink & DW. So unlike you, they are not identical to each other. I think I'm going to be satisfied with the layout. It works in the house.

I have two islands pushed together running mainly parallel to the long wall, and for me, it's a very efficient setup. I almost went with a straight, long island, but figured the slight 'L' in the cooking island would steer foot traffic out of my main work zone and make for a great seating area on the other side. (This layout is actually pretty distorted -- it's 23' wide by 13' tall, so not nearly as 'square' as it appears in this plan.)

I don't have them yet but am considering putting them in. Here are a couple of magazine photos that I have clipped and a potential layout for my kitchen.

Also, there are a few kitchens on this website that have 2 islands, although I think most of them aren't side by side like you're looking for.

I would be interested in seeing the layout your KD comes up with. Sounds similar to my plan. Hope these help.

My kitchen layout is nearly identical to jimonthebeach but my two islands run perpendicular to the stove. I will take pics later today AFTER I clean my kitchen.
