Island in 12x10 Kitchen

Posted by findthestud (My Page) on

We don't have much counter space in our 12x10 kitchen design. I am wondering what you guys think about a small 3-4 x 2-3 island in the middle? It will have a 21" cabinet facing the oven and a butcher block countertop with a 10" overhang with stools on the other side for breakfast etc.

I have read multiple threads here about 36" being the minimum distance between cabinets, but what about bare walls? Do that minimum distance apply to island to wall as well?

P.S. New member; please be kind.

Bump. Any help or advice?

Have you considered more cabinetry/counters on the other side of the kitchen? You could add an additional 10 feet or so of uppers and lowers between the two walls. Would drastically increase your storage and countertop space.
