reclaimed pine island

I plan on using reclaimed pine on my island counter top with a dark espresso stain. I have a choice to distress it with chains or let the natural grain and nots show through as the only "distress". I am concerned about the natural state being not distressed enough to hide any future scratches and signs os everyday use. What do you think? Does anyone have any opinion?
