Furnace Burning Plastic Smell Blower Fried?

Posted by wulfpack (My Page) on

Woke up last night to a strong burning plastic smell throughout the house. The furnace was buzzing and not blowing. I will guess the blower motor is fried.

It is a Carrier Weathermaker 8000 two speed. Any idea of the estimated cost to repair a blower motor on one of these units? Also, do you know if I can replace the current blower motor with a larger blower motor (original motor seems to be too small for the square footage of the house)>

Its hard to tell pricing as its different in all parts of the country. Your furnace is designed to work with a certain blower to get the proper temperature rise. I would not suggest using a larger motor.
