2-stage T-stat for radiant heat w/ aquecoil hot water/air backup

Hi - I have radiant heating with hot air backup thru an aquecoil hot water setup; the aquecoil setup is to heat the house more quickly when I am away and have turned down the temp to low 50s, and then return home...because radiant alone takes 12+ hrs to heat house. However, the 2-stage T-stat seems to call for the aquecoil heat whenever I turn the temp up more than one degree. I would like the backup aquecoil to be used only when the stat is set to maybe 3 or 4 degrees more than room temp. Maybe a pro level T-stat will help? My contractor who put in the aquecoil is great but does not seem to be very knowledgeable about how to adjust when the aquecoil backup comes on.
Many thanks for any advice...
