Radiant in garage without heat

Posted by zick (My Page) on

I am thinking about running PEX in the garage slab but only using it as a shunt (dump load) for a wood burning boiler, in case it gets too hot.
Will I have a problem with the pipes freezing if I use Antifreeze in the garage tubing but don't ever heat it?
I'm in south central WI if that helps.

Thanks

No, hydronic antifreeze in the right concentration can protect you to -35 exposed, so even more in slab.

Good deal, figured it would just wanted to make sure.

Thanks

If you're worried about it freezing, simply run the heat in the garage for an hour or two in the morning and the same amount of time at night. That way your slab is your protection against freezing.
