was using heater son bought last yr. it seems to work ok. the burner is inside about 8-10" from lip edge. you have to look inside to easily see it while it is working. easy to hear it though. after 30 min in garage, the flame tip started licking out the end of unit and it shut off. tank is 1/2 full. is this an issue of low oxygen level in garage? or a plugged burner? unit seems very low tech.

ah jeez, now your gonna say read the manual too. or buy a real garage heater. i see the nonvented wall mount units for sale. $50 is pretty cheap. but my garage is 2/3 storage for kids boxes. the wall i want to mount it on has too much junk in front. the mrheater unit does seem to work ok. usually i just leave the service door open and let the house heat warm the garage. its free and easy. i do it in the summer too so i can a/c the garage.

cavell - you have deviated from a question of functionality to a statement around practicality - two different things.

Regarding your question of functionality, my recommendation is the same.

In terms of your statement regarding practicality - not something that I would personally do my self, due to fumes from the heater entering the house. After all... it is gas powered is it not?
