heater for basement

Just bought a home in a northern state. The 300 sq ft finished basement is a long way from the thermostat and is very cold. I'm looking at electric space heaters for a solution (only running them while I use the basement).

The highest rating for a heater is 1500 watts, so does this mean that all the small 1500 watt heaters sold as office heaters will heat the same amount as the 24 inch 1500 watt towers sold as large space heaters?

I read that it takes 10 watts to heat 100 sq ft, so I would need to run 2 1500 watt heaters to heat my basement (so long as the circuit can handle it).

Does this sound right? Is there a cheaper electric solution? My fiance mentioned hiring an electrician to install baseboard heaters, which seems like a big initial cost.
