How to hide a propane tank - PICS

Posted by mwalasct (My Page) on

We wanted to bury our propane tank in the yard, but due to some time/budget constraints we have to get an above ground tank (100 gallon) at our house. It will be in the back of the house (not visible from street) but it will be right off of our sliding glass door, near our paver patio.

Has anyone built a structure around their propane tank to hide it? Or does anyone have a creative idea to help mask this eyesore? Please post pics of your solution here...

Thank you!

I have some thoughts for you. First, 100 gallons is awfully small. I have a 250 gal, reside in (warm) South Texas and mine needs to be refilled an avg of twice a year. Second, is this location going to be readily accessible to the rear of a propane truck?
You can bury a tank, but I kinda like to see what's going on. You can plant bushes of the right size to shield it. Another idea I had, but never got around to building, was just erecting a little wall like seven feet wide or so. Mine was going to be of the same Hardie siding, paint color, and white trim as the house so it would "fit in". A little landscaping around it would be nice. It could be constructed with two PT posts in concrete with a frame, siding, and trim. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply...

I failed to mention that the only purpose of the propane tanks is to fuel a gas log fireplace, so we think the 100 gallon tank should be more then enough.

I too would like to build a "house-like" structure around the tank, with siding that will match the house and trim that will match the house, along with some plantings to make it all blend in.

I was hoping that others on this board have thought the same thing and could post photos of their solution.

Thanks!
