hvac system replacement proposal

Posted by austinite (My Page) on

Can anyone provide some insight/guidance for the following proposal:

1) Bryant SEER 17.0, 2-speed cooling 2-stage heating
condenser 288ana036 EER 12.7
coil cnphp4221
furnace 315aav048090
ARI# 1077159

approx. $6000
This supposedly included a hybrid heat pump added...

Also, how does Bryant compare to Carrier? My understanding is they are made by the same company. Does this Bryant model have an equivalent Carrier model? Should I be asking for other info from my contractor?

Thanks,
Teresa

For the heat pump (Bryant Evolution 18 Puron):
35,200 btu cooling, 12.7 EER, 17 SEER, 36,000 btu heating at 47 degrees, 9.1 HSPF. Those are excellent numbers.

- The condenser and coil are the heat pump. Price is great. I think you need a special thermostat to make it work properly (either from Bryant or a Honeywell VisionPro).

Carrier makes the same heat pump (Infinity 18). Check their web site.

Good luck.

Thanks Gary,

This is being installed now. Equipment looks first rate. I was told Carrier makes this equipment, and I now believe it. Some of the boxes still have the Carrier emblem on it.

Question: How level does the outside unit need to be. It is installed on a concrete pad, but it is on a slope, so the unit is on a flat surface, but on a slight (maybe 10%) slope. Will this effect longevity/warranty of the equipment?

The outdoor unnit needs to be level, front ot back and side to side. The base pan is manufactured so it will drain condensate "onits own"-- but needs to be level. I would also suggest that each corner of the outdoor unit have a 3/4" vibration isolation pad under it.

You may be able to add shims to level the condenser.

My condenser sits on 4 bricks that raises it above the mounting pad so water drains away, especially during the defrost cycle.

Any tech that sets a outdoor unit unlevel and leaves it reflects their quality of work.If they do that what else does not matter to them. They need to be level for reason already covered and just plain professionalism.
