I would appreciate you opinion on this Bryant equipment and install entire system replacement as far as price. Is there something missing in this for the AC or is that a part of the heat pump? I'm not up on all this stuff.

The quote is $8860 for this.

225 ANA Legacy Line Heat pump 15 seer/8.5 HSPF
Matching tin coated coil (Preferred series Upflow/Downflow N coil)
353AAV Preferred series Plus 90x gas furnace
New T-6 Preferred Programmable Control Thermostat
Includes additional new return and new supply, 11 new register covers, fix the electrical outside to the unit, rebuilding the form outside, new drain pan and fix the drain line, new line set, and put down a new sheet of plywood under the unit. 10 year parts and labor warranty.

a few things we are missing,
The size of the tons of the A/C Heat Heat pump.
The model # and the BTU's of the furnace, and the model of the Evaporator coil? All these are required to know the rating of the total system.

The system they are mentioning is a hybrid heat system.
A heat pump is actually the A/C but in the winter it reverses the flow of refrigerant giving you heat. Your gas furnace will be used as back up heat to the heat pump when more demand is needed.
The operating costs of the heat pump are lower than just using gas heat. This will help save on utilities in the winter time.

Did they also tell you about the 265A model and also discuss the Evolution controller instead of the T6 thermostat?
Also about the tax credit by qualifying on the heat pump?

for price it's hard to tell do to the economics of different area's.
you need to get some more quotes, I would get another Bryant or Carrier Quote to know if it's a good price in your market area.

Thanks Dave. I was about to post when I saw your post that the price did not include $2000 in tax credits and rebates. So that would take the cost down to $6860.

I don't know the tons. The furnace I posted above is 353AAV Preferred series Plus 90x gas furnace. The web site says 38,000 - 112,000 BTUH

They didn't say anything about the 265A model. I assume that would be more money. But also when he was running his numbers on our house in his computer (they measured rooms and windows, etc) he used different combinations of pumps and furnaces, and some of the better models didn't offer more in savings. He came up with what gave us the highest saving off utilities.

He had an evolution controller on on of our options, but not this one. I think he just matched up a Preffered control with a Preferred furnace. Should we get that instead?

If you put in a tonnage that seems to fit (our house is 1500 squ. ft.) does this sound reasonable? I will get someone else to come out though.

It sounds like the sales guy really didn't do a complete job in explaining things to you.

It also sounds like he was attempting to do a load calculation but he should have giving you the numbers of heat load and heat loss of your home for proper sizing of your air conditioning and heating system.

Not to have the model numbers is a bad sign.
I would really consider getting another Bryant Dealer or Carrier Dealer estimate.

The rebate is about over, so you will need to act fast. The last date of sale was the 15th but the last install date is Dec 1. so that 15th sale date can always be changed for that.

If you get a 353AAV, I would get the Evolution Controller Themostat. It is far superior to the T6 but the T6 is very good. Nothing compares to the Evolution or Infinity controller.

If you can at least give us the model numbers of your outside system and your furnace that is there now we can give you a reference to a possible Bryant or Carrier System to look at.

Sorry, I don't know anything about this so you will have to bear with me. Those aren't model number I gave?

He was being vague about some things (he wouldn't tell us the tonnage of the replacement) and he came right out and told us it was because they have been burned by coming out spending all that time doing the work, calculations, etc and then people just shopped for a better price after he left without taking anything sale into consideration. This guy did spend time doing his load calculations and going over savings with different systems, etc. And then answered every question we had patiently. As a matter of fact, he spent about 4 hours with us and didn't leave until we were through talking to him about everything we wanted to know.

So I guess I can understand where he is coming from. He didn't want to do all the work and somebody else reap the benefit. I can't fault him for that.

These would be a full model number
225ANA036 condenser
CNPH*3617A evaporator coil
353AAV036080 furnace

After looking at everything,
you live in California? since the 353AAV was develop to meet California codes.
That system uses the T6 thermidistat and can not use the Evolution control.

After looking at options, it does look like this may be your best option of equipment from Bryant.
you may want to get other quotes if you are concerned on the price or the quality of the contractor.

I'm in NC. Yeah, definitely going to get another quote or two. Thanks for you help!

Just one more quick question: would you call another Bryant company or someone else entirely for a quote? Or at least one other Bryant guy for apples to apples and another one who is different?

RE: Opinion on Bryant system and install

It is up to you, you could call another Bryant Dealer or Carrier Dealer since the equipment is basically the same.
I would lean towards a factory authorized dealer which your first estimate may have been from.
Remember not 2 install contractors are the same even if they sell the same equipment.
