 o
exposed return ducts in a room

I'm considering converting my AC to heat pump. This 1 story house had all of the duct work in the attic. It is on a slab so underfloor ducting is not an option.

I'm probably going to have to drop a return or 2 to floor level. For various reasons, I do not want any wall work done. Are ready to finish, or white, round ducts readily available to residential HVAC contractors? I do not think they'd have to be more than about 15" in diameter. I would put it in a room used for a utility/computer/work room so its appearance would not really be an issue. At worse I might have to cut a vent opening in the door to that room. Or just leave the door ajar.

Of course you see these all the time in commercial construction but I think they are uncommon in residential buildings.

RE: exposed return ducts in a room

duct whether supply or return in conditioned space is actually beneficial for less heat gain and loss through the duct.. Round pipe is available for residential contractors. If you want spiral then it is very costly. Basic galvanized round pipe can be painted.
