Slant fin 15 vs 30

For a new home we are trying to decide whether to use 15 or 30. We are near the salt water...so the 30 is appealing for it's rust resistance...although that may not be an issue. The cost to upgrade for the entire house from 15 to 30 is $700 but that $$ could be used elsewheres.....So my question is...is it worth the money to upgrade... what would be the compelling reasons to upgrade, if any. Just not sure, so I'm looking for other's thoughts. Thank you.

the #30 puts out more btu per foot so you would use a little less footage of rad. If you need to run any return pipe in the rad. you can do this with the 30 but there is not enough room to do it well in the #15. This is the way it was a few years back. I have not used Slant fin for a few years. I always used the #30 because of the fact i could run the return back if i had to. The #15 did not have enough room and the copper pipe would slide against metal and make a lot of noise when expanding. later paulbm

Unless you need the rust resistant or the installation benefits that were mentioned for $700.00 you are only getting 30 btu's a foot more on the 30. To me it hardly seems worth it. If you need a 10 ft. piece in a room that's 300 btu's more you will get with the 30. That's not even another foot of 15.
