You should be fine for years. Your wallet won't be for that long...

Agree with weed. However, you will be throwing good money down the tube by heating exclusively on strip heat for entire winter season. Suggest you take this into consideration.

Thank you both. Our heatpump was having electrical problems and our heating bill was sky high two or three winters straight until our tech found the problem and tried to repair the heatpump (which was not able to be repaired), so even with the heat strips we are saving $50 a month believe it or not. I'm very relieved we are safe through this winter.

make good use of the winter to educate yourself
before purchasing yout new heat pump system.
check ducts for leakage, blockages & restrictions.
much cooler in attic now than it has been in
months past.

energy_rater_la- Thanks! We had everything checked 2 years ago and the only thing they found wrong with the ducts they fixed. I found a very reliable company who gave us an awesome price for a new system including duct work, but I have to save up a bit more first.
