Carrier Infinity Systems advice

I am considering 2 slightly differnet Carrier Infinity systems. They are as follows:

Size/Brand: 3 ton/ Carrier Infinity
Model: 25HNB936A003/ FE4ANF003
SEER: 18

Size/Brand: 3 ton/ Carrier Infinity
Model: 25HNB936A003/FE4ANB006
SEER: 19

The Infinity 25HNB936A003 is listed as a 19 SEER, yet the contractor list it as 18 SEER when using the FE4ANF003
air handler, but 19 SEER when using the FE4ANB006 air handler.

The home is 6 yrs old, 1600 sq. ft, located in Edgewater, FL. FPL give at $880 rebate on 18 SEER, while a 19 SEER has a $1005 rebate.

The 19 SEER system is $375 more after the higher rebate.

Is it worth the extra money? Is the SEER values correct? If the FE4ANB006 air handler a benefit or actually too much CFM? Any insight, advise, comments?

Maybe it's just me, but I think your contractor needs to have his head examined to propose theFE4ANB006 with that HP, unless I'm missing something!

fsq4cw - Thanks for your quick response. Can you expand upon your answer a bit? Is the SEER value based upon the condenser unit and air handler together? I am not an HVAC guy but everything did not sound right. This is a major purchase and I only have 1 chance to do it right. I need to make a decision quickly as my current 6 year old Amana system had a compressor failure. (I just bought the home in April.)

Here is what I found on the AHRI Directory site. Both coils appear to be valid matches for the heat pump. The FEANB006 coil has better SEER (19) and HSPF (10.0) over the FEANB003 coil. This means you will be savings some energy costs in summer and winter.

That's the 'theoretical' spec for this match. Personally I would not do a retrofit this way in my own home. I would prefer the F'003 'Sloped' coil with the cfm range between 200-1400cfm than the F006 'A' coil with the cfm range between 500-2000cfm. I feel this would provide better utility with a 3-ton HP and I prefer the way condensate drops out of the 'Sloped' coil to the 'A' coil.

Sometimes you have to read beyond the specs. This is my interpretation, analysis and conclusion, however it's not the only one possible. I would only install the F006, maybe, if I were going to later put an addition on the house.

Why not just install a Carrier Greenspeed system?

I'm looking for the best option that is the most cost effective. I think the Carrier Greenspeed system is a sizable cost increase. Can you comment on the cost increase? Not sure if I would ever utilize the low temp heating benefit of the Greenspeed since I'm in Edgewater, FL (Near Daytona). Are there other benefits that I'm not aware of?

I'm leaning towards the 003 system and it seems to be your choice, which helps.

Since you live in FL you may be quite right regarding the price increase of the Greenspeed since heating is not a priority.

Greenspeed advantages may include quieter operation, less wear due to ability to operate at slower speeds, possibly even better humidity control and less costly to run. Whether this trumps the cost increase is certainly questionable. You could press for a fair price to consider the Greenspeed upgrade and the new Infinity WiFi thermostat as well if it's available.

Don't forget the Carrier Fall rebates! That alone may provide a $230 advantage for the Greenspeed than for the 25HNB combo rebate.

Don't forget to discuss the 10-year parts and labor warranties!
